I have accidently deleted some important files and now windows xp will not load at all. It says some files are missing at the boot.
I have not got a internal dvd drive and used a external usb dvd drive to reinstall windows xp from the cd. My computer does not seem to enter the setup and i have tried every button at the boot. I have done this before, and usually at the start it says press any buttons to enter setup, but it does not with this pc. I thought it might be the bios settings.. I have tried EVERY SETTING IN THE BIOS.. still no luck. the usb ports are working fine.

I have then decided to get windows xp bootdisk and use that with a external floppy drive (there are six disks).. but the problem is as soon as it enters the setup i can no longer press enter on the keyboard as it stops immediately working when i entering the setup. I have looked and tried everything through the bios. No luck with this. It is a usb keyboard and my computer does not accept ps2, as it does not have this port.

I have then decided to buy a Internal DVD for my computer but have a REAL HARD time finding which one fits.. as the connection is different and i have never seen this connection. The internal DVD is meant to connect to the computer with this adapter it looks like, that goes into the pci slot and creates a slim looking connection...

My pc is a hp compaq d530 usdt model.. Can anyone help!! Either with finding the right DVD model or reinstalling windows xp!

ok in the bios settings find removable media boot and enable that. then save and reboot the computer, as it boots up start pressing f9 key to bring up a boot menu then choose the dvd rom. should work from there.

got this from hp support site out of the service manual for your series of pc.

OK ... you are beating around the right bush, but going about it wrong.

Let's go back to your first try at installing XP using your external drive. You need to go in to your BIOS and see if there is a setting for booting from an external drive or USB port. If there is, then set that as you first boot priority. Now you can put the XP disk in the external drive and boot the computer and you should install just fine.

That was also the problem you faced with the floppy disks - boot priority of the external (USB) drive.

Now for your slim looking connection on your internal DVD - that is a SATA connection. If you have no SATA ports on your motherboard or power supply, then you need an IDE connected DVD drive. Or you could get adapters to convert SATA to IDE.

domicile windows XP isn't probably previous college - some human beings desire XP to Vista. Microsoft will proceed helping it for particularly it sluggish. domicile windows 7 will probably replace the two XP and Vista, yet until eventually that happens, human beings will continuously be chop up on the problem.
