You DONT need a 3ghz machine to run vista.

Here is what you should do with your machine.

Since you only have 512mb's of ram, upgrade to at leats 1gb, your motherboard can support up to 4gb's. Try for 2 gb's of ram if you can.

Upgrade your video card to a PCI-E x16, which your motherboard supports. I would for go for nothing under a Nvidia 7600GT, you can buy one for around $130 USD at newegg.com.

Your processor isn't the fastest, but it WILL run vista, BUT more than likely it will have a little trouble running vitsa ultimate. I would upgrade to a AMD X2 processor, like the 4200+ Call Compaq and see if your motherboard's bios supports any upgrades to the cpu.

I assume you mean Vista Premium Ready. You'll need at least 1GB ram total. Vista supposedly needs a graphics card with 128MB of dedicated V-ram, but you could probably get away with less. The Geforce 6150 is currently the best integrated graphics you can buy, but it only has 32-64MB dedicated V-ram, and the rest is shared with system memory. The ram will cost between 50 and 100 dollars depending on if you need to purchase just 512MB more or if you need to buy a full GB (depending on how many slots are currently used by the 512MB that are in there). A cheap dedicated graphics card with 128MB Video ram can be found for about $50 at the cheapest, and probably less than that on eBay.

I would upgrade the ram. Add another stick of 512 MB. There isin't much you can do about the video card (the best PCI video card is a BFG Ge Force FX 256 MB).

Even without those upgrades you should be able to run vista but if you want al the features and such and good speed then at least upgrade the ram.

You'll get information from the site "www.microsoft.com", but the least you need are: enough free space (up to 20Gb), a good (dual core) proccesor, a high-resolution GPU, 1 Gb to 2Gb RAM etc.

About 2gb of memory recommended, a better video card might help (according to what you do). Just read the reviews about Visa. They all recommend at least 2gb period.

Unless you want a very slow vista machine, you would need a new computer. Minimum 3GHz, 1GB ram.
