I agree intel is better in performance
BUT AMD is much much cheaper and nowadays the power of processor is so powerful even the least powerful ones can run everything without a hitch
so go with AMD your wallet is crying for it
I use it for compiling programs on my FreeBSD laptop
(No more Windows)

In my experience a s a Custom computer builder. Intel has the edge right now.
Intel chips, especially the new 45nm CPUs, are faster (even when running at the same clock speed) have a broader range of compatibility and are more reliable.
18months ago AMD had some nice chips that gave intel some stiff competition but right now you get what you pay for,
If you really need serious performance go with intel for now at least. For web surfing and email either is fine and you really won't notice any difference between them

I'm a hardcore overclocker and gamer so I go with the Intel. They overclock and game better:
Click on the blue "View all Products" at bottom of the list. You'll see what rules the top of the gaming charts. Doesn't look like AMD to me.
Anyone who says AMDs are better should post a similar link to back their claim up. They won't because there aren't any. I run an Intel E8500 at 3.8 Ghz 24/7 and clock it over 4 when benchmarking. Try that with any AMD.

AMD! They're less expensive, more efficient, and run cooler! I use mine for running media, streaming media over my home network, downloading, compressing/decompressing software, photo editing, and games (Doom 3, MS Flight Simulator, Bioshock, NFS series, Halo series, etc.) I love AMD! I would never have it any other way!
