Stable:

*This can vary with your hardware, but I tend to see ubuntu win in this. Ubuntu almost never crashes, and, unlike windows - Linux is designed to be running without a reboot unless you REALLY need to (almost no software on Linux asks you to reboot when you install it, on windows, almost every application wants that to happen).

Speed

*Again, it depends on what you install, you can have windows running "bare bones" really fast, but Ubuntu, from my experience, gets stuff done faster than windows

User friendly

*It might take a few days to learn the ropes on Linux, but Ubuntu's package manager makes program installation easy, and you should find everything works well, I find it an improvement over windows.

Secure

*Windows is much less secure, on windows, you're running as admin all the time (most likely) - on Linux, you only run as admin when you need to, did I mention no viruses?

If you are a gamer, Linux is not a very good choice, it still has a ways to go before it reaches that goal, but getting closer all the time. If you like Every type of graphical programs you can down load and use it falls short also. So whats the point? I never reload, I never get Blue Screens, I don't have spyware, virus and trojans to deal with all the time, it has plenty of programs that suit what I do with computers and updates are easy and don't take hours to accomplish. All my drivers are installed and the system is setup according to what my computer has, I don't have to make those decisions or look for drivers of any kind. I prefer a Linux that has the Windows Looking Desktop Environment. Kubuntu might be a choice, however I use PCLinuxOS 2009-1 with the KDE Desktop. I dual boot all the computers in my house with Windows and Linux as my operating system. I have the best of both systems and would have it no other way. By the way only four files installed in Windows XP can make it stable, safe and, secure.

Ubuntu is great!

as long as you don't want to play games.

Its a bit odd to get around at the beginning but its pretty simple after some time working with it.

Of course its much more stable than any windows... well at least it never died on me yet.
