simple answer NO. the higher core count on the core i7 is 6. but since each core can do 2 threads at once(hyperthreading), the computer see's 12 cores. thats 6 real cores and 6 fake cores. the only processor with 16 acual cores is the brand new AMD SERVER CPU. and that cant be used in a regular pc. btw if your friend did not pay $1000 fro his core i7. it doesnt even have 6 cores. only the $1000 core i7's have 6 cores. your friend is lying and he is clearly a trolling you. you should kick him in the face for lying to you.

The i7 has 4 cores, not 15 or 16.

There is, I believe, an 8 core version, which has 16 THREADS. but not 16 cores.

There is no single 16 core processor out right now, the highest is 8.

Core i7 is CPU($300 low end) + $300 motherboard + DDR3 ram (not cheap yet like DDR2). That's one enitre C2D build right there. Wait for next year as the i7s roll into the market. They're fast, but will cost a lot to be an early adapter.

Hers the "trick" the AMD FX-8150 has 8 physical cores with no "virtual" cores...that is to say a "virtual" core is a way Intel can make a CPU....ACT like it has more than its physical cores. The Intel 3960X has 6 physical cores and 6 "virtual" cores...which is touted by Intel as having 12 cores! That as high as you can get in a "normal PC"...however "servers" are a different story...they can have two Xeon CPU's with 8 physical cores and 8 virtual cores each..thus you...theoretically... have..32 cores!

Um... No.

i7's are Quad-Cores (4-Cores). You would need to have 4 i7 Processors to say that, and I can gaurentee your friend does not have 4 Processors, unless he's running a Super-Computer for NASA or something...

The highest amount of Cores a Processor can have is currently offered by AMD (and the higher-end i7's), which runs 6-Cores.

Hope I Helped! - Tell your friend to get his facts straight, because he knows nothing about Computers obviously.

No even the i7 3930k only has 6. Currently only AMD makes an 8 core.

i7 have 4 physical cores with hyper threading technology which allows 2 threads to go through a core making 4 extra VIRTUAL cores

Intel Xeon can have up to 10 cores, or 20 threads. Model E7-2850, E7-2860, E7-2870 & E7-8850, E7-8860, E7-8870. That's the most you can get as far as physical cores go - they're designed for servers.

i7 CPUs have at most 6 cores, or 12 threads: i7-3930K, i7-970 & i7-980. You can feel free to call his bluff now =P
