Okay, Heres a walk through of what happened. I downloaded an image from LimeWire on to my desktop. It was supose to be "2009 Corvette" but when it got on my desktop it turned in to something toataly different. It's not an Image, rather just a weird icon. The name it has constists of alot of Pornographic terms and I really want it off my desktop. It says its an Image but when i click it it comes up as "No preview". I tried right clicking and there is no 'delete' selection. I tried clicking on it and hiting Delete on my keyboard, didn't work. I tried Draging it to the Recycle Bin, THAT didn't work. I tried Tweak IU from Microsoft, that didn't work. I tried running my Antivirus, and Pest Patrol, Both of them didn't work. I tried Spybot - Search and Destroy, that didn't work. I tried restarting in to safemode and then right clicking it and theres STILL no 'delete' selection. Its really getting on my nerves and is VERY annoying. PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN. Thanks

Sometimes what users on Limewire do is to make a file unable to be deleted by making the filename longer than Windows can handle. Try going in explorer to the directory for your desktop

C:\Documents and Settings\(user name)\Desktop

and renaming the file to something short. You may then be able to delete it. If this does not work, try selecting the file then holding down the shift key while pressing delete. This will bypass the recycle bin and may allow you to delete the file.

If that doesn't work, you could try a third party file editing program, or try editing the file from the command prompt.

Ok. You have a virus on your desktop. It is to strong for your virus scanner and it is more that likely being supported by Spybot-search & destroy.

This exact thing happened to me. I was totally furious.

My daughter clicked on an icon on a website & I couldn't get it off. tried everything that I could. then all of a sudden got a message from spybot to download it & it would get rid of the virus. HA..downloaded it then my whole computer was taken over. You are going to have to take it to a shop unless you have your disc to reinstall the software. I know it is alot of work but beats fighting with that. Good Luck

I've had good luck with a program called "Unlocker". It's free, and available for download at the below link. I'd try it to remove the restrictions on your icon file and then try deleting it. Hope this helps.

You downloaded a trojan You can't get rid of it that way use your virus protection to get rid if it or a program called Ad Aware or a good healthy format. I used to use Lime Wire, but it go to the point of being nothing but one big ad for porn so I uninstalled LimeWire and downloaded Zultrax. Its got porn too but not 1/10 of limewire. I got Zultrax from http://www.download.com

I think I had this before, you have to go to the top right of the picture and try to find the x to close it out. Sometimes the x is hiding so slide the cursor til it shows up.

go into safe mode track it down and delete, while there look in in ad/remove for it., it that doesn't work download hijack this, leave it of your desktop, run it from there, look for the offending software and delete. after that run xpscrub its a resistry cleaner. and kinda safe. but look at what you'r doing.

How about trying a System Restore, or have you done that?
