Hi, i'm building a computer for the first time and now that i have received all the important components needed to build it (case, motherboard, HDD, etc), i have found that none of the parts shipped with ribbon cables. As far as ribbon cables are concerned, i would like some advice on specifically how many I need, as well as what type would be necessary, and the best place to purchase them.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

The needed cables (ribbon and sata) come with the motherboard. At least every mobo I have purchased (400-500) came with cables. The power supplies (good ones) have Sata and PCI-E power plugs on them now. So if you didn't get any cables with your mobo you will need to figure out if you need Sata or IDE cables. You can get them here.

a new motherboard(bought within the last 2 years) will only support 1 ribbon cable with 2 devices attached. its best to go with sata for HDD(doesn't matter what version) but I would use the ribbon for an extra HDD(you will need another one unless you got a really big one) and dvd drives, card readers,blu-ray drives and such. you can get ribbon cables from newegg for 5.00. here are 2 links.http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812105909 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812105910. copy them into your url bar.

we don't use those any more. you just need the sata cables that

came with the motherboard.
