I just got this computer from my parents ( they got a new one and gave me there's) and I had to give them there hard drive . I got a new one (unformated) and put it in. It wouldn't start up (I didn't think it would. It said NTLDR is missing). I tried to reinstall windows xp home edition but I don't have any disks for it. They said they don't have them any more and no one I know has one any more (they all went to vista). I got the boot disk (the flopy boot disk) off the Microsoft website but they still ask for the op disk. Any suggestions on what to do.

sounds like you will need to buy yourself a xp disk, the other thing is xp does not need a boot disk, or you could just do what most people do and download a copy of xp :)

Yes i have the solution ok the reason it wont work is the hard drive is blank no info is on it at all which means there is no microsoft xp or vista. So you need to get it and to do that you can either go out and pay out the nose for it or even better download it(the full version not a half a$$ed version). To download it there are many ways from all kinds of websites. I recommend going to Google and looking up bittorrent and downloading it then install. Next go to piratebay.org and find under applications windows xp pro sp3 and click it then click download torrent open it with bittoretna dn bittorrent will download it over a p2p network. Next after it is done or running find and download Nero 8 or 9 from that website with a key gen(the key gen will show up as a virus but it is not a virus) once they are done downloading install nero and use the key gen or crack to activate it and burn the windows xp (it will be an .iso file) to a dvd make sure you click the right option to do so make sure you are doing an iso burn. Then start the blank pc and pop in the dvd and it will format and install windows. With that though you will have to install all the drivers for your hardware which can be found on the internet so use another Pc and usb flash drive to find the right drivers for your hardware i would start with internet (NIC/network interface cards) driver so you can connect to the internet. and do the rest from that pc. Also once you do burn winxp Pro sp3 you will need an activation key that can be found all over the internet just go to Google. It sounds hard but it really isn't it is just time consuming for someone who hasn't done it. If you email me and give me some hardware specs i will help you through the process. Then there is always Linux the open source operating system which is free to get and can be used on lower end hardware, it is great but hard to use if you are new. There are many tutorials on it that can help you out. There is ubuntu redhat, fedora, kubuntu, and many others out there. Its all up to you, also if you do choose Linux there is an emulator out there called WINE that lets you run .exe's (basically windows programs) on Linux.

You need a new OS..chances are good that a PC will not install "strange" stuff..I downloaded a program from Microsoft and created a ISO Disk and it worked half way thru and canceled out..one thing I learned in 8-years of Computing..FREE-doesn't work..Get a FULL Version of Vista Home Premium..it cost me $$279.00 at a STAPLES OFFICE Supply Store..and my other PC is useing a FULL Version of XP-Professional--that cost me $$289.00 at New Egg(dotCOM)..I tried an UPGRADE once(never will again)..I had a XP-Home ED. SP1 and a CD SP2 Upgrade then I bought a Upgrade(XP-Pro SP2)..and it never worked comfortably..my FULL Versions are close to perfect..I use Western Digital Hard Drives for SYS. C:/and like the 80-GB Size.

First, there was a CD that came with your new hard drive. It can be used to format and prepare the hard drive for what you are going to use it as. In your case, that would be as the primary hard drive.

You are going to have to buy a Windows XP installation disk, the full version, since there is no operating system on the hard drive. Then you can install Windows.

Without a Windows CD there is nothing you can do other than install another operating system. You might want to consider a free operating system such as Linux.

Ubuntu Linux is about the easiest, but I also use Fedora.

These are fast, free, and easy to install operating systems and you might just like them better than Windoz. Anyway, Linux runs great on older hardware, so consider this instead.

Here is what you could do, you can go and ask your friends if you could have their Vista operating disk and try to install Windows Vista on to your computer. You could also call the company who created your computer and they usually have XP disks still and ask if they have any disks for your computer. I hope that I helped!

Get a new oS. Ubuntu is one of the most widely used free (linux) OS'es out there and the forums are excellent for support

http://ubuntu.com

Get the i386 ISO and burn it to disk and install.

You need to buy a new operating system and install it. A computer won't boot if there is not operating system, and a boot disk won't work if there is no operating system to boot.

I think you'll have to buy a new Windows OS then

You could also use linux which is a free alternative

yOU CAN CALL/WRITE THE PC VENDOR AND ASK THEM TO SEND YOU RECOVERY CD'S. THEY'LL ASK FOR ALL THE NUMBERS OFF THE PC INCLUDING REGISTERED OWNERS INFO HAVE YOUR FOLKS GIVE IT TO THEM OR YOU SO YOU'LL HAVE IT HANDY AT THE TIME. THEY'RE GONNA WANT THE PRODUCT KEY OFF THE STICKER ON THE PC, ECT. MINE WAS ABOUT $14 DOLLARS AND GOT IT 2 WEEKS LATER.
