Question:
Will any Intel Celeron processor work on any Celeron compatible Motherboard?

I have a Dell Dimension 3000 with an Intel Celeron Processor at 2.4GHz.
I'm looking to upgrade to this:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116264&cm_re=Celeron-_-19-116-264-_-Product

Both chips are Socket 775 LGA (I'm not sure if this matters)

I think that the Celeron currently in my desktop is 90nm, but it may be 65nm, but the one on Newegg is 45nm (Also not sure if this matters either)

I'm currently running OS X on this computer and I plan on dual-booting this with Windows 7 and OS X, but I would like to upgrade it to the max.

If I were in Windows, I could use CPU-Z to give you all of this information, but since this machine currently has OS X on it, I can't find ALL of the info. Instead I have to use CPU-X which doesn't give as much information (Like the size, and specific names) but here are the specs of this machine:

Intel Celeron@2.4GHz/256kb L2 Cache
1GB (soon to be 2gb after order comes in)
nVidia GeForce 8400GS (main)
Intel GMA x3100 (I think, I never use it anymore)
2x300GB IDE Harddrives (may upgrade to 2x500GBs if I can afford it)

I'm not sure about all of the motherboard specs, but it is the original one on the Dimension 3000, and is based on the Intel 865g chipset.

I would love to see this machine up and running at it's utmost (Seeing as it is the worst computer I own, but it is decent) and if I can get rid of the old crappy Celeron and replace it with this nicer dual core processor, it would be GREAT

Thanks for your help!

865G/GV chipset was originally made for socket 478 and Intel did not produce LGA 775 motherboards based on the 865G/GV.

However, other motherboard makers took advantage of the cheap availability of the 865G/GV chipset and actually produced LGA 775 motherboards. Some examples:

It is very likely that BIOS support is only up to the 65nm versions of Conroe/Allendale Core2 processors. It is really best to check the cpu support list of your motherboard to be sure. If BIOS version is old, 65nm may not be supported but there could be a BIOS update that could resolve that issue.

If the Core 2 Duo houses the slot that this celeron can use, then yes. I think I remember, LG something slots, Core 2 Duo motherboard can vary though.

Dude your socket 478 not LGA 775. Look it up... 865GV chipset is socket 478. You can look it up...
