My computer has been laging a bit and ehow said you can boost performance by turning off indexing. What is it and is it bad to turn it off. Also how can you safely run a game at high priority. Thank you for your answers.

Indexing is basically the computers way of listing all your files etc so once it has 'indexed' them it makes it easier to find them the next time it has to. It won't harm your PC if you don't index everything, but it will slow down slightly if you don't. Let the indexing run until it's finished (it can take a while at first), but once done things will quicken up and you can turn off indexing.
It's quite safe to run a game at high priority as long as your PC can handle the workload. If it can't it will either prevent you from doing so, run very slowly or at worst crash, but it shouldn't cause any problems - you'll just have to set the priority to it's default (or best) setting otherwise.

Search Indexing (which is what I'm guessing you mean) is looking at your files to speed up any future searches you might do. I.e. if you search for "frog", the disk will already have an index that point to file with "frog" in them rather than having to do a full search.
Go ahead and turn it off - it will only affect searches. You can turn it off by going to (My) Computer, right clicking the C: drive and unchecking the search box at the bottom of the General tab.
My recommendation is to turn off unused programs (Skype, messengers, etc) so they don't automatically fire up at PC startup to reduce loading. Adjusting priorities is risky - it's very easy to lock up your system. (At least it's not a permanent problem, it goes back to standard priority after a restart).

I turn off indexing,
It is a total pain and not much use anyway - its supposed to make searches faster
but the time wasted while it indexes exceeds a slightly slower search in my experienece it is a really poor piece of design
