Question:
Are there any down sides or issues with starting up a computer with just the motherboard and power supply installed?

I am building a new computer and right now all I have is the Motherboard and the Power Supply, (Along with the case obviously) and I'm wondering if there are any bads, to starting up the computer just to test the fans. I have the fans hooked up along with some extras, front panel, some USB drives, etc. I do not have the processor or graphics card so those are not in it, as well as no hard drive. Just the Motherboard and Power supply with some fans are installed and hooked up.

I wasn't planning on plugging in a monitor, was just going to plug in the tower as it sits now, and see that all the fans work, etc. Was only going to keep it on for a few seconds, I just don't want to short anything

Naz is correct, you need RAM to even see the BIOS. But you won't damage anything, as long as nothing over heats.

You should NEVER start a computer with ANY parts missing. It can cause instability of voltages. Aloso it will NOT do anything useful at all with mossing components.
