You probably have a copy of 10.3.0, which is not going to work at all. The iMac G5 would have shipped with a later version of 10.3 with the necessary hardware support. Your earlier version does not have that hardware support.

Why in the hell would you even want 10.3 in the first place? Whoever told you to install that is a dunce. You should be trying to find a copy of 10.4 or 10.5. 10.3 is pretty useless these days. You can't even get a remotely modern browser on it.

Hmm... never tried burning a CD-sized boot disc to DVD. No reason to think the size of the disc is an issue.

The prohibitory sign (broken folder icon for OS 10.1.5 or earlier) means one or more files essential for system boot were not loaded. Could be missing, corrupt, wrong name, or wrong location.

You must burn an image to the disc to make a proper OS X boot system, not drag-drop files. The UNIX system is the base for OS X, and it has many hidden files.

BTW, doesn't OS 10.3.x require two CDs?
