Windows Error:Scanner failed to init. Please reinstall the application?

Question

I recently had a crapload of spyware on my computer. I downloaded AVG anti-spyware and got rid of EVERYTHING it had showed in the scan. Now when I startup my computer it says "Error....scanner failed to init. Please reinstall the application. I have no idea what I did or what to do so can someone PLEASE help me?!?!?!

sounds like a driver to a picture scanner you had installed at one point lost a registry entry or something when you did that virus sweep. If you have a scanner, reinstall it with the disk, or with a driver download you can grab from the maker's site. If you don't have a scanner, go find the entry in your find/remove programs, and take it off there. Not a big deal.

your computer thinks there is a scanner hooked to it and the driver software is gone. if you do have a scanner attached, find the cd that came with it and stick it in the cd drive and follow instructions. if you don't have a scanner now, go into printers and scanners from control panel and delete whatever scanner it thinks is still there. if you need the software..can't find cd..look it up online by the scanner model and make and it is probably downloadable.

Ok. Instead of using AVG, install CCleaner and AdAware instead. I use CCleaner and AdAware which are free also. Download those two and install (they should be in your Program Files) and to run your scan click on the desktop icon. Go to add/remove programs and take off the AVG. I used it once before and it didn't pick up everything. Hope this helps.

you need to just reinstall the drivers for the scanner. You probably have a CD for the scanner, right? Just reinstall it and that should fix it
