My computer can't reach DHCP & can't renew ip address. What could be wrong?

I'll write down what I've tried below. I know the problem is with my computer because I've talked for hours at a time with my internet service provider and they ran out of tips for me and ultimately said the problem is with my computer and that they can not help me with that. I am guessing that the problem is either a virus (though I've done a full system scan with Avira and came up with no detections) or it could be a faulty network adapter (though the device status says my network adapter is working properly). It seems as though my guesses are wrong but I can not think of anything else that could be causing this problem. Is it worth it for me to try and buy a new network card? I don't have any money to waste, but I do need internet access since I am a student who is about to start school soon. Please tell me how I can fix this problem.

Here's what I've tried: netsh winsock reset, ipconfig /release & reset, netsh int ip reset, a winsock fix program, tried new ethernet cable and modem, tried typing in ip address, tried disabling and then enabling network connection, tried reinstalling new network drives, tried a friend's laptop and found that it could connect. I also tried reformating, but was unable to for some reason. This is what I can remember that I've tried. I also remember that after a week of not being able to connect, I was able to connect for about 2.5 hours, but then was suddenly disconnected again and I could never get back online. I use DSL by the way and my modem is directly connected to my pc. Thank you for your help.

If your friend can connect using your ethernet cable then the problem can only be in your computer itself which I think you have already established.

If your computer is picking up a weird IP (not in the 192.168.xxx.xxx range) even though it is set to DHCP, turn off both the computer and the modem and then turn on first the modem and then the computer, (the order is important). If it still picks up a random IP, your network card is busted. Replace it, they are very cheap and you will certainly be able to install it yourself.

do you have link light fixtures, whats your ip address? if it starts off with 169 that's an motor vehicle config ip and shows that your won't be able to attain a dhcp server. experience you have already reset the ip stack. its maximum probable a nic card., reset the router, in case you get linked, purchase a clean router.
