Do you play games here in Yahoo! Answers?

Is it the same Laptop as in your other question?

If yes do the following:

- Remove the defective HD

- Insert the new one you got from HP

- Install the OS (do it, wherever you can get it)

To save the data from the defective disk:

- Get a 2.5" USB disk case and a USB cable (~$15..$20)

- connect to any PC, it will be recognized automatically (follow the instructions on screen)

- either you get it back to life or drop it

- in case it fails, you can use the case further on for another HD

It sounds like your boot priority might not be correct. To fix this, boot your computer into the BIOS by pressing either DEL, F1, or F2 when your computer is first starting up (The key you have to press depends on your computer, but it should tell you, just look for it). Once inside the BIOS, look around for a place that lists the order in which your drives will boot. Sometimes there is a "Boot" tab at the top that you must navigate to, and other times it may be located in the "Advanced" section. Every BIOS has it, so just look around until you find it. Then, simply make sure that your hard drive is being booted first. If you have more than one hard drive, try them in various orders until you find the right one. You will not mess anything up by doing this. Worst case, just change it back to what it was before. Once you have verified that your hard drive has primary priority, save changes and exit. This should fix your problem assuming windows has not been corrupted.

If not, buy a new computer!

P.S. Also, make sure that all floppies and other removable media are taken out of your drives. Sometimes a flopply left in the drive can result in this error.

"Disk Boot Failure" isn't a message you opt to locate at boot up. There are various issues you should do. 1st., you point out which you have yet another device (with any luck with internet get admission to). you should create a bootable floppy and upload the document CHKDSK.exe to the bootable floppy. Then insert the floppy into the undesirable device and CD C: and run the checkdisk by using typing chkdsk.exe. in case you won't have the ability to get admission to the C: stress in any respect certainly one of three issues must be undesirable. the two the partition table, grasp boot checklist, or the irritating stress itself is undesirable. in case you do no longer understand the above you should take the device to a restore save or bypass purchase a clean HD and installation it yet you may ought to format and partition the recent stress and reinstall your working equipment and different utility. IT appears like on your case you should take the device to a repaire save except it is and previous device and not woth the fee. As for placing the boot order interior the BIOS you may examine that by using hitting the delete or F1 key after the BIOS runs its startup examine and you will see a row of tabs around the perfect as quickly as interior the BIOS. hit enter on the 1st tab and you should work out something like "boot order" and CD must be 1st, then 2d is floppy and final is HDO. to alter the order use the website up or website down keys to website in the process the thoughts. you may set the 1st as properly as HDO yet then it won't boot out of your CD or FLOPPY except your HD is undesirable which on your case it must be.

One of two things:Your hard drive is not working or your CMOS boot sequence is configured incorrectly. To fix it you need the system disk from your operating system to be in the drive while booting. Re-install your operating system.

Check the removable media drives and remove any floppy disks, CD's, and Flash drives and reboot. If there isn't anything in any of these drives, your BIOS may have been changed.
