A question about cpu usage?
2010-01-02 15:33:25 UTC
I was using RC version of windows 7 ultimate
and i had a 7600 vga
and my cpu usage was always low(about 5% and in full use i didn't have any problems)
then i changed my windows to pirated version of windows 7 (7600)
meanwhile i changed my vga to msi 9500
now my cpu is almost always high and because of that my mouse pointer jumps
i don't know if it's the vga or the windows
and if i reinstall this version is it going to be ok or i have to install another version of windows?

plz help , it's killing me!!!!
i asked my brother and he said it doesn't have anything with the vga
but i dont know if i have to use another windows DVD or just reinstall it

Hit Control+Alt+Delete and bring up the Task Manager. Under the Processes tab you will see a list of running processes and the CPU cycles and memory each is using. Right click on the process that is using all your CPU and End it. You will need to search on the process name in Google to find out what it is supposed to do. If it is part of Windows you can turn it off. It may be a trojan from your pirated copy of Windows.

There is something running in the background. Open Task Manager and see what's using all the CPU cycles.

Kill the process and see if your usage drops. If it's a critical service then don't kill it.

Using a pirated version. It very well may have malware installed in it. It may be accessing the internet and participating in DDOS attacks or send mass spam mailings. Disable your internet connection and see if the usage drops after a few minutes. Before you disable your connection, use Task manager to see how much bandwidth you're using. If you don't have a browser open and you're network utilization is high, then high

then that's a clue your computer is a bot. Unless Windows Update is downloading updates, but that's doubtful.

So can the pirate OS and install Ubuntu. It's free.

Firstly, the pirated version of Windows could easily have spyware and viruses built in to it, and as it is built into the kernel it won't be detected. These could cause the high CPU usage. Best bet is to buy a legit copy.

Secondly, hit the win key and type resmon. This will list processes by average CPU usage and you can see what's causing the problem. You can also see the disk and RAM usage to see if anything dodgy is going on here as well.

I'm with everyone else on this. Pirated software will usually install some sort of malware, along with whatever the program itself is, and therefore cause your computer to run slowly when it's apparently doing nothing or doing something that normally wouldn't tap your CPU out.

If you don't want to pay for a new OS, either switch to something free (Linux, Solaris, BSD) or downgrade to your previous version of Windows.

Try running it in safe mode (tap F8 as it boots up). This will disable the VGA, so if it runs slow here, then the VGA isn't the problem. Also, open task manager and look in the Processes tab. See how many things are there and see what is doing the most processes. If you are unsure what something is, google the process name and you should get a description of what's running slow.

Your CPU tends to shoot up when using pirated software. in your case using an operating system which is used to run your PC is cooking your CPU. Uninstall Windows 7 back to your normal Factory installed OS and purchase Windows 7. It only costs £175+

I bet it's the OS. Some hot software has spyware built into it. You should install your original version of windows.
