Basically does either hold any personal data, or is it all stored in the hard drive?

Thanks in advance

Ignore both the first two answers which are wrong.

Neither the RAM nor the motherboard hold any personal data when the power is switched off.

It's my guess you are breaking a computer and selling the parts? If that's the case then the only thing holding any personal data is the hard drive. You can happily dispose of the rest of it without anyone else obtaining any of your data.

The motherboard itself does not store personal data but the RAM may contain personal data as long as the computer is on. However it is not accessible the same way data on a hard drive is accessed. Malware and spyware are capable of reading data in memory. An example of this is a keylogger that can record keystrokes and store or upload what you type. Once a computer is shut down all data in RAM is cleared.

Your hard drive holds all of your personal data, your motherboard makes everything work together properly, and the RAM is temporary memory used only when it is needed to run tasks. The more hard drive space you have, the more things you can save. The better motherboard you have, the better hardware you can run. The more RAM, you have the more efficiently you can run tasks.

These are explained in very simple terms; I hope this helped.

hi, i say you gimme that geek's style i will actual hit him complicated. The ram is a momentary memory is a time-honored concept it particularly is taught those days to the youngsters. It does shops information yet quickly and the information gets completely deleted when you shutdown ur device. And with regard to the motherboard it contains the rom and the l1 cache to save information in spite of the undeniable fact that the rom shops information completely till formatted in spite of the undeniable fact that it shops information of the bios and different hardwares and could't be quickly accessd . approximately information restoration u can recuperate information from hdd or any detachable media. well sort of, it doesnt hold data as such it uses data and moves it on, hence the name random access... but hard drives hold and store data

personal data no, system data yes. RAM = Random Access Memory, its what the OS is initially booted onto on load.
