RJ 45 Short for Registered Jack-45, an eight-wire connector used commonly to connect computers onto a local-area networks (LAN), especially Ethernets.
BNC short for British Naval Connector or Bayonet Nut Connector or Bayonet Neill Concelman, a type of connector used with coaxial cables such as the RG-58 A/U cable used with the 10Base-2 Ethernet system.
Modem /Telephone Connectors
RJ 11 Short for Registered Jack-11, a four- or six-wire connector used primarily to connect telephone equipment in the United States.
Keyboard Connectors
DIN is an acronym for Deutsche Industrinorm, the standards -setting organization for Germany. A DIN connector is a connector that conforms to one of the many standards defined by DIN. DIN connectors are used widely in personal computers. DIN/5 or AT connector is mainly used on AT keyboards
PS/2 A type of port developed by IBM for connecting a mouse or keyboard to a PC. The PS/2 port supports a mini DIN plug containing just 6 pins. Most newer computers use an ATX mouse (green) and ATX keyboard (purple) to connect to the PS2 connector port
Printer Connectors
CENTRONICS 36 Pin Standard A standard interface for connecting printers and other parallel devices.
DB Connectors
PARALLEL PORT A parallel interface for connecting an external device such as a printer. Most personal computers have both a parallel port which send signals Bi-directional.
On PCs, the parallel port uses a 25-hole connector female connector (type DB-25) and is used to connect printers, computers and other devices that need relatively high bandwidth.
ECP Short for Extended Capabilities Port, a parallel-port standard for PCs that supports bi-directional communication between the PC and attached devices (such as a printer). Supports 8-Bit transfer and 1.5Mbps transfer speed
EPP Short for Enhanced Parallel Port, a parallel port standard for PCs that supports bi-directional communication between the PC and attached non-printer devices. EPP is about 10 times faster than the older Centronics standard. Supports 4-Bit transfer and 128-600Kbps transfer speed
MONITOR OR VGA PORT- A DB 15 hole Female 3 rows use to connect your CRT and LCD monitor usually color blue
SCSI 50 SCSI 68
SCSI PORT- A 50 or 68 SCSI Connector use for faster connections (SCSI external devices)
SOUND CARD PORT- usually found on a sound card A DB 15 hole Female 2 rows usually color yellow connects joystick, game and MIDI devices.
DB-25Male DB-9Male
SERIAL PORT A port, or interface, that can be used for serial communication . Most serial ports on personal computers conform to the RS-232C standards. A serial port is a general-purpose interface that can be used for almost any type of device, including modems, mice, PDA and digital cameras. A PC usually contains a DB-9 and 25 Male Serial port. Supports 1 Bit and 57kbps transfer speed
High Speed Connectors
USB A USB B
USB Short for Universal Serial Bus, an external bus standard that supports data transfer rates of 480 Mbps. A single USB port can be used to connect up to 127 peripheral devices, such as mice, modems, and keyboards. USB also supports Plug-and-Play installation and hot plugging.
4 pin receptacle 6 pin receptacle
IEEE 1394 or FIREWIRE A very fast external bus standard that supports data transfer rates of up to 400Mbps (in 1394a) and 800Mbps (in 1394b). Products supporting the 1394 standard go under different names, depending on the company. Apple, which originally developed the technology, uses the trademarked name FireWire. . A single 1394 port can be used to connect up 63 external devices. In addition to its high speed, 1394 also supports isochronous data -- delivering data at a guaranteed rate. This makes it ideal for devices that need to transfer high levels of data in real-time, such as video devices.
SC connector ST connector
FIBER OPTICS- A high speed connection usually used in high speed networks or as a backbone line. Very expensive and difficult to install but immune to EMI. To install the different connectors SC will usually stick and click to the connector and ST will stick and twist to the ST connector
