I recently built a new machine with a a bare bones deal and put windows and ubuntu side by side. When I try to connect to the Internet with ubuntu it runs perfectly without a hitch. But when I try to use the Internet with windows xp it does not recognise the LAN connection. How do I fix this?
Five answers:
No.

Did you remember to install the network drivers for your motherboard? While you're at it, double check to make sure you've installed the chipset, audio, video, and other necessary drivers. You can find them, free of charge, from the manufacturer's support website.

I know Ubuntu can install the necessary drivers automatically but Windows XP/Vista/7 require manual installation.

Here's the link to their support page. Simply enter "M2N68-AM Plus" into the search bar, select your OS (Windows XP) and download the drivers from there:

Edit: Are you sure? I found them there. If you want, I can walk you through it.

Did you reinstall windows on that new computer or just copy it? Reinstalling windows wil in most cases make windows find any ethernet card and wil load a driver automatically and also getyou connected to the internet autimatically. Or you could try to first reinstall the ethernet driver. Be sure though the ethernet function for the motherboard is enabled in the bios-setup.

It also may be possible that the ethernet driver doesn't get installed automatically in which case you need to install it yourself. Normally this driver can be found on the motherboard support dvd.
