Yes , the OS will recognize it as quad-core , but hyper threading gives no advantage in gaming . But for an entry level system , the i3 is a very decent processor and coupled with the GPU and 8GB RAM

it makes a decent rig .

Yes, i3's are dual cores with hyperthreading, so they are recognized as quad-CPUs by operating systems. It's fine for gaming, as long as you're not going for top graphics in highly graphics intensive games at 60fps. It will do well but it may bottleneck the graphics card if it tries to do too much. For that I would recommend an i5 3570K with an overclock.

RE:

Hyperthreading on i3?

Does the Intel Core i3 3220 3.3 GHz (dual core) have hyperthreading (so the OS recognizes it as a quad core processor)?

Also is that processor good for gaming if I also have the HD7770 and 8 GB of RAM?

Thanks.

I don't recommend that processor for gaming. I really recommend the i5 3570k.

but yea it should, it doesnt support turbo boost though.

but with 8GB of RAM and that graphics card, you should be able to run virtually anything on low-medium. and maybe some things on high

yes, the OS will count the Core i3-3220 as a quad-core.

Keep in mind there are still only 2 execution cores in the core i3. The Hyperthreading only helps with task scheduling.

The 7770 and 8gb of RAM is fine for gaming. The 7770 will allow that PC to play any game at 1080p (1920x1080) settings.
