I have a trojan virus on my computer. I've had it for a looonggg time...like 5 or 6 months. but anyways, my norton antivirus cant get it off and everytime i try to get it off it keeps saying that "an internal problem" or somethin like that has happened and norton cant start up anymore...and in order to get it back up, i had to uninstall it and then install it again. now the problem is, whenever i try to install it again, it keeps saying that "norton antivirus has encountered an internal problem an cannot be installed" and now i dont have any type of virus protection on my computer watsoever. WAT CAN I DO!??!?

Ther 2 simplest solutions at this point are: You can either get a new antivirus program. Norton, in many people's opinions, is not a good program. It bogs down your system and can cause more problems than it fixes. The other option is to do a fresh reinstall of Windows. Fighting malicious programs like trojans and spyware can be more work than reinstalling Windows.

Get AVG anti-virus from Grisoft. It will rid you of viruses that Norton cannot. Ad-Aware, Spy-bot Search and Destroy are also good to get. All are free and do a decent job. Microsoft's Windows Defender is another free program to get. I've had Norton and McAfee, AVG Anti-virus does a better job than either one of them.

The 2 anti-virus protections are not compatible. For example...Norton is not compatible with AVG so the computer will not work unless one is uninstalled

It's tough learning how to take care of stuff like that bit do a google search and see if there is a removal tool for your virus not nortons site ..

First I would try avg a free download and good one at that

Burn your documents to DVDR/CDR.

Wipe your system with the XP partition tool.

Reinstall, update, and install.

1.) zonealarm with component verification.

2.) AVG antivirus

3.) Firefox with noscipt plugin

4.) Thunderbird mail with GPL encryption

5.) Do not run MSN or Yahoo IM in the tray – manually load them as needed..

Stop installing software from questionable places – Or eating free gum off sidewalks.

Format your hard drive. Problem solved. You can try to make backups of all your files etc, but most likely you will also backup the Trojan virus. Conclusion of the story: be careful with what you download, where you download it from, and what it is.

First, disable system restore. If you have a virus or trojan, system restore has recorded it and if you don't turn off restore it will reappear. Then run your scans, if that doesn't remove it, then save your important docs and info, reformat your drive and reload.

Backup your data and do a new XP install, that is the only way to be sure any virus is gone.

Goto knoppix.org & download knoppix & burn it to cd/dvd. Reboot from your cd, & boot into knoppix. Use clamav to detect virus. & delete it.
