Ok yesterday the breaker switch went off so the comptuer turned off while it was on. It will turn on, but will not boot into windows xp. Its a dell and i dont know much more about it cuz its not mine and im asking for my girl. It will sometimes go into the loading windows xp screen, and sometimes its the black screen asking what you want to do such as Safe mode, start it up regularly, etc. NONE of the options will work. Any ideas as to what i can do to help her? She doesnt know much about computers so the easiest thing would be best.

you have gotten broken factors. first ingredient i might try in spite of the fact that if is to unplug the computer for a minute then plug it back in. while you're listening to followers, and no boot, its possibly that the motherboard have been given zapped. in case you hear no followers, it must be the powersupply. in case you hear followers, and a beep, then see the no longer easychronic easy coming near and rancid it must be the video show is broken. needless to say, and that i might examine this many times happening.... some video show units at the instant are not many times grew to become off, they only pass into powersaving once you shut of the computer. try hitting the powerbutton on the video show fist just to make helpful its actual on. it could have been grew to become off while the means replaced into hit, and then it would not basically come on while the computer booted, yet might extremely be waiting for the means button.

what you need to do is start the computer and when you see the first screen, push "f8" like mad. Then a configuration screen will pop up and then click on restore. That will fix everything. Same thing happened to me.

The above answer is a good one and most likely correct. If you have the CDs that should have came with the computer, you may have to reload it.

due to the power failure it could be that you lost some needed files in the unexpected shutdown
