I recently tried to install motherboard drivers for my MSI M3 z170a but I must have done something wrong along the way and had to short the cmos just to get to the login screen. I want to reinstall my motherboard drivers again to solve a low framerate issue I'm having with my 1080. How would I go about this without having to short my cmos again?

P.S. last time I tried to instal mobo drivers I only installed one of the many drivers on the list could this have been the problem?

Hmmmm, brings back memories of an old build.

In that case I had an unstable memory controller that was causing memory errors. In that system the memory controller was on the board. Nowdays and with your system it's on the CPU. At least for Intel. In the end I had to exchange the motherboard.

You could have bad memory or there's another piece of unstable hardware within the system. It would be wise to test the memory with Memtest86+ and perhaps do a CPU stability test to weed out the problem. Prime 95, OCCT, anything that stresses the memory and CPU.

Seems like the driver you're trying to install is bringing out this stability issue. You might want to see if it's a specific driver that's not playing well with a specific piece of hardware.

I've built many systems and if the hardware is stable I don't have issues like that. Just as long as you got the drivers from the Nvidia and MSI site, installation and operation should be seamless.

If no unknown devices are present in the Device Manager after the usual drivers are installed (network, audio, video, etc.), then it is not necessary to install the Intel motherboard (chipset) "drivers".  Note that the package does not contain drivers, but only INF files that identify the hardware to Windows.

you are either A installing the wrong drivers (for a different model board) or B you have a defective board but since you can boot at all thats unlikely...

download driverpack solutions and use that it will auto install the drivers you need
