im going to be buying a pc. however i want it to handle games like far cry atleast on medium setting, ive seen an amd fx 6200 bulldozer 4.1ghz 6 core, with nivedia 640 2gb ddr3, and 8gb or ram. should i put more money into the cpu or gpu, im also going to be doing work browsing and other things beside gaming, also people have said once you go past 4gb ddr3 of ram they become useless and the same, and you can barely notice the difference, is this true.

p.s sorry for bad spelling was in a hurry

Firstly I would reccomend intel processors they are overall better, secondly 8gb of ram is probably what you want 4gb will be cutting it close for these next hen games like far cry. Overall the graphics card is more important when playing games but the CPU is obviously necessary. I would personally have one of the i5, all the top games developers said that the i5 3.4 ghz 3570k would be one of the best or the 2500k is very popular. Make sure you think about future proofing. I wouldn't get an off the shelf pc I would build one. You will get a lot more for your money and then you ca. Keep upgrading

Typically you want to spend more on the GPU than the CPU, but you can't cheap out on either too much.

If you're going to go for AMD though, at least get an FX-6300 which is based off a superior architecture and barely any more expensive than the 6200 (In other words, faster. The 4300/6300/8300 processors are all Vishera processors which are improved over the older FX chips by about 10-15% at least).

The GT640 is an entry level card. It's not spectacular and it's only got DDR3 RAM which is slower. At least invest in a GTX 650 Ti or Radeon HD 7770 for a decent gaming experience.

4GB or RAM is enough for most stuff these days, and having more won't really speed up your system, but there's really no reason to get less than 4GB now because RAM is so cheap and there's no need to limit yourself.

If you are getting 4GB of RAM, get 64-bit OS and a 64-bit capable CPU. Invest in your graphics card. Games will mostly take advantage of fast GPU and even an i3 is enough to operate a Nvidia GTX 680. An i5 is enough for every game on high settings and above. If you are doing more than gaming (video editing, photo editing, simulating stuffs,...) then get more RAM. You can't have enough RAM when you are into that business. Also, most intensive programs now support GPU acceleration so don't worry about your CPU too much.

If gaming is the only high-end thing you'll be using your PC for (not video editing or high-res photo editing etc), then for best bang-for-buck you need to spend more on your GPU than on your CPU (roughly 50% more on GPU)

FX-6200 is something like £80-90, so a good balance woul dbe to buy a AMD 7850 for around £130-140. You would get high settings in most games.

The GT640 you are looking at is bare entry-level for gaming. You'll get medium settings in most games, low in high-end games like Crysis 3, Metro 2033.

Assuming you have around £150 to spend on CPU + GPU (going on fx-6200 + GT640), you should probably look at a Pentium G2120 or AMD Phenom 965 or AMD FX4130/4100, coupled with an AMD 7770.

7770 is a bit better than the Nvidia 650GTX, for reference, and will perform at high/medium for most fairly high-end games.

4Gb Ram is enough for gaming - you would rarely use as much as 4Gb when gaming unless running other significant background tasks at the same time. If you are on a very limited budget, stick to 4Gb

Hi,

Not sure what your budget is but you should definitely look at upgrading the graphics card.

Look at a Radeon HD7770 or Nvidia GTX650 as a minimum to play far cry 3 at medium settings & 720p HD resolution.

4Gb of RAM was adequate for most games up to the start of 2013, newer games such as crysis 3, far cry 3, max payne 3 work better with 8Gb of RAM or more - Thats not to say that 4Gb isn't enough, it just means you would get better performance with 8Gb. (faster loading times etc.)

Firstly post 4GB ram is only useless on a 32-bit OS, and I'm guessing that you are going to be using a 64-bit OS so more RAM is better, and 8GB is a good amount. For gaming I would recommend investing in a good GPU, that's not to say crap out on the CPU.

you should spend about 150% of what you spend on the cpu on the gpu if your gaming.

the fx 4100 with and amd 7750 hd is the best budget setup.

8 gigs of ram is becoming needed although 4 will do you fine for now.

simcity maxed out with a full city takes up just over 4 gigs of ram on my pc.

you will get the main important performace benefit in video games by making use of going with a clean image card the athlon 2 x2 is by making use of no means a foul processor (no longer the terrific ofc) however the little you will benefit with going from a athlon 2 to a i3 that's additionally a twin middle is honestly none, as in gaming amd and intel performce basically as reliable whilst outdoors gaming intel is extra suited so i'd say purchase a clean image card, i'd propose mby 6850, 460, 6870, 560 Ti, 560 Ti 448 middle (order of performce) locate those you could with the terrific cost for you, in case you dont wanna spend a outstanding type of money then choose one from the decrease end as i listed then interior the destiny you purchase a used processor, i propose something like a phenom 2 x4 or mby even a x6? they are super processors! and much less costly! for gaming a phenom 2 x4-x6 + a reliable image card will pass a looong way! as i dont understand any shops you will desire to purchase them from you will desire to locate that your self, as i basically understand shops right here in sweden which wouldnt relatively help now wouldn't it? granted a twin middle would desire to be on the side to have problem with extra present day video games like battlefield 3, yet a image card would the two way be a great performace benefit as a 4670 is an extremely previous and susceptible card whilst the athlon 2 x2 is, whether slightly previous. nevertheless have super performace and super cost

IF you gonna get the fx6200 then spend more money on a new card cause a 640 will barely handle games that well,
