Question:
Why is it that my new PC (with Windows Media Center) can not find drivers for USB Peripherals?

I just bought a new pc and when I try to plug-in any USB peripherals (i.e. an external hard-drive, a USB flash drive etc.) it pops up with the "found new hardware wizard" and it looks for drivers without finding any. These peripherals normally just need to be plugged-in and don't need any external driver as they are compliant with drivers included in Windows XP. Also the peripherals work fine on any other pc (without needing the "found new hardware wizard"). The USB ports seem functional as they recognise correctly the peripherals. They just look for drivers when they should be found within the OS. The PC is a Dell Dimension 9150 with Windows XP Media Center.

Run windows update. If that doesn't work, then you've got a messed up copy of windows (which is not hard to achieve with media center). Send it back to Dell and tell them to fix it.

Go to the manufactures site(s) of the peripherals and see if they have a driver download..
