I'm building a new AMD rig... some helpful advise please?

my nephew wants to build a gaming rig, and he said he wanted the "...best AMD parts available...", i'm not familiar with AMD too much so what do i need to choose? all i really want to know is FX or APU, and which one. for example, FX-8150 or A8-6410.

You will not find a true gaming system for under $600 and "the best" is well beyond your budget.



This system (if you're in the US) costs $810. It doesn't have "the best" processor from AMD, but is considerably less expensive than "the best" and performance-wise is one of the best processors from AMD for gaming.

Get either an APU such as the 6410, or the FX such as the 8150 is all fine and dandy for gaming and all, but that integrated GPU, if your not getting a dedicated GPU, is going to really put your rig down to the ground in a matter of seconds trying to play any games. You have not specified a price point, for all I know you could $50 to spend or $1000. Please update the question so either I, or someone else can assist you a tad bit better. I will list some of the better AMD products though that will work. Also, may I recommend you using http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/ as you can pick out what ever CPU, RAM, MObo, what ever and will make sure its 100% compatible.

I currently have a AMD A8 6500 with 8570D integrated graphics. It WILL play Battlefield 4 1280x1024 on low to medium settings, depending if its online or a bunch of explosions, or Titan Fall same settings. Both games are PERFECTLY playable.

One thing though, it might seem like a brilliant idea to cheap out on a power supply, say a Diablo one for $35, don't do that. It can and WILL burn out, and then more than likely take your whole rig along with it, so spending that extra, say $50 on a Corsair 80+ bronze is 110% worth it.

Also, unless you are over clocking, don't bother buying a 3rd party CPU cooler, especially if your on a budget, as the stock one will work, if you have an extra $25 after everything is all said and one, go for it.

This is pretty much the same as mine, not the best, but will do if your on a budget. Quad core CPU, very fast one, 8GB 1600MHz RAM, again fairly fast, only a 5400RPM HDD but that wont affect things too much.
