I have a Acer Desktop, it had Windows Vista Home premium, my problem is when I start it up, the screen gets all messed up and has green and white lines going diagonally across the screen, and if it does start up it freezes and does not unfreeze again. COuld any one help with this problem. I took it to staples and the staples guys said it was a problem with the battery, so tehy changed it becuase it said it could not remember crucial settings. So they replaced that under warranty. And what do you know, its still not fixed. SOmetimes I think the service people I meat and just idiots.

Either the video chip is toast or your LCD is going out. Since the system freezes I'd lean more to the graphics chip. Replace video card.

Also, I'm assuming you're referring to CMOS battery since it's a desktop? That'd have absolutely no effect in repairing this issue.

The most likely cause is a bloated registry which has become the home for all kinds of useless bits and pieces of data. Whenever any change is made to the system settings or a program is installed or uninstalled, a new entry is generated in the registry. The operating system while running your computer has to pick its way through all this excess material. There is a multitude of useless bits and pieces to be removed.Parts of uninstalled programs, parts of incompletely installed programs, dead drivers and many other things. clean your registry and remove all the useless data fragments and no longer needed information to fix the freeze error! I should like to commend Registry Easy http://cleanup-comuter-run-perfectly.com to you ! You can try ! Good luck!
