I recently installed a new processor for my computer, and when I try to turn it on it freezes during POST. Eventually if I turn it off and back on, it will give the error message "1801-Microcode Patch Error. Missing or Invalid Processor Microcode Patch. Please contact Compaq comuter corp. for a new ROM BIOS to support the new Processor stepping," then give me the option to boot up. I believe this is because I need to upgrade my BIOS, but I have no idea how to do that. I have a Compaq Evo D310v desktop with a Celeron Socket 478 processor. The BIOS I have right now is 686O2 v3.13. Any help on how to upgrade the BIOS?

It should be available for download from the manufacturer website. Try downloading and installing this: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=37580&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=92873&os=228&lang=en

Your computer model is equiped with either a socket 478B Intel Celeron (1.7GHz-1.8GHz) or Pentium 4 (up to 2.4GHz) processor.

When replacing it with a processor of different type, a BIOS Update is required with New Processor Steppings

You need to download BIOS version for your new processor.

Ìf you have replaced it with a 2GHz Intel Pentim 4 go to HP server tc2110 download BIOS ver 1.01

(2.4 GHz Intel Pentim 4 go to HP server tc2110 download BIOS ver 1.02)

The BIOS is hardwired into your motherboard. You need a new one. Take back the new one and get a replacement.
