Hi there
I found my old desktop that i built myself a couple of years back, anyway ive cleaned her up and just remembered that the last time i used it i got a virus. So i restarted it and it gets past all the black screens with all the white writing on and then comes to a blue screen saying "A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer." If this is the first trime you have seen this stop error screen etc etc etc.. and it says check for viruses on your computer - but i cant because i was in the middle of reinstalling xp and i went to restart and now no matter how much i restart i cannot get past this blue stop error screen to get into windows xp. at the bottom of the screen it says "Technical information:

*** STOP: 0x0000007B (0xf9e4c640, 0xc0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000) "

I really don't know what to do and i would really like to get it running again because it was really good for gaming. Please help! :)

I would say you have got a hardware problem. Because it hasn't run for such a long time hasn't helped it. Did you give it a couple of days in a warm room with the sides off so the components had time to warm up?

Electronic components still deteriorate even if they are not used. I would think the motherboard or video card has blown or one of the components on them. If the computer has been in the damp it wouldn't help matters either.

Decision time, forget it or a workshop job to get it bench tested.

I always used to get that on my computer, the best thing u can do is call up the helpline and ask for advice, it might come to you having to do a complete recovery, which gets rid of everything on your computer, including files, downloades and viruses. Bare in mind none of these things you will be able to get back so try and back up all your files onto CD's so you don't lose them. Doing a complete recovery will take your computer back to the state it was bought/built. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software. This problem can be solved by uninstalling new software, updating device drivers and making minor configuration changes . From http://fixit.in/bluescreenofdeath.html . You can also run a free registry scan using utilities from http://re7.info
