my computer won't reboot correctly?

okay it all started earlier this evening. my computer was in sleep mode like usual but when i'd move the mouse it wouldn't come out of it. it's happened before recently and when i hold the power button down to hard reset it works fine. but this time it doesn't work fine. the computer turns on the hard drive goes on, the cd rom goes on. no sound of fan start up (my computer has a loud fan start up for the first 15 seconds or so when it first boots up) nothing ever happens. i have to hold the power button down to power it off. i keep trying to power up the computer. after many tries it finally did it. it's happened several times now and nothing seems to trigger it. i have unplugged all usb plugs in, unpluged the monitor cable, unplugged the actual power cable and let it sit for a minute before plugging it back in. nothing but several dozen and 10 minutes or more of trying gets it to power on completely and boot. i have it working now and i'm terrified to let it reset that this time it won't ever boot up again. oh and that reminds me even a software reset ( like with a windows update) will cause the problem not just turning off the computer via the power button. one last thing if this has anything to do with it, about 2 weeks ago there was a power failure in my entire complex and my computer was on at the time. there was no thunder storms going on and i didn't hear any transformer explosion so i don't think it was a power surge but when the power came back on eventually my computer wouldn't boot up doing the same thing it's doing but it eventually powered up and never had that problem again until today. finally there are no beeps of any kind when i try to boot up, no message on the monitor just a blank monitor acting like it's in sleep mode.

some more possibly unrelated problems but maybe more symptons that could be related. it seems like my computer has been failing bit by bit. a few months ago my hard drive failed and i had to replace it. then about 2 months ago the onboard audio won't work in windows. it detects it but won't install driver even if i get an offical driver from the website. then the ethernet (onboard ethernet port) internet starting working real dodgy and i had to go to wireless router. finally a day ago the wireless connectivity of windows seems to randomly fail so it won't detect any wireless sources until i reset windows. i don't see any connections to these other problems other than two of them are mother board related (ethernet and audio) but i want to say as much as i can just in case there is a connection.

i'm sorry if i'm giving too much information but i want to make sure the people have as much as they need to get an answer hopefully as quickly as possible. i hope somebody has an answer out there and while i'm still able to get it.

This sounds like a slow virus to me.

This is based upon your having your installation CD. If you do not have it, I have other solutions (you can email me).

Reinstall your Windows OS.

When you get to the screen that asks “Upgrade” or “Custom Install”, select custom. A warning will pop up. Toward the end of the warning it will say “your files will be placed in a file named Windows.old. “ If you do not see this message about Windows.old , do not proceed, email me.

Proceed with your install. When you are done, copy the CONTENTS of user.old folder inside your new user folder. DO NOT COPY ANYTHING ELSE. If you bring anything else over, you will probably bring the virus with it. When this is done and all is back, up and operating, you can delete Windows.old.

You will have all of your docs, pics, music, favorites and desktop (this will remind you of your old installed programs so you can reinstall them).

Good Luck

It rather sounds like your pc has a corrupted working device....the only thank you to repair it relatively is to do an entire reload.... in basic terms insert the living house windows CD that got here mutually with your pc. once you first turn on your pc, hit the two F1 F2 or the delete button.this would enter what's called setup or BIOS...... In there, you want to discover something that asserts something approximately Boot precedence. you may make your CD ROM or DVD-ROM or CD Burner your first boot gadget. Then hit the ESC button.it is going to ask you in case you want to save transformations to CMOS. definite you want THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Then it is going to restart.. you may watch after this... it is going to say... PRESS ANY KEY besides FROM CD....definite hit a key immediately...it is going to then bypass by way of living house windows setup.. once you come to the section the place it askes what partition you will want to place in living house windows on, at that element, you want to delete the partition and create a sparkling one. it relatively is all self explaitory from there.....

You shouldnt have pressed & hold. my PC sleeps everytime and single press wakes it up.

Since you computer is falling apart one by one, maybe you should try reinstalling or repairing the OS, maybe it was quietly installing updates & the shut down caused the system to corrupt.

if you can get to the BIOS.
