Question:
Incorrect amount of RAM recognized on PC.?

Hello, I am running 2 4GB Kingston sticks of RAM (same speeds, etc) on my Gigabyte motherboard (GA-78LMT-USB3) with an AMD FX-8320 processor. When I look at the DxDiagnostic, properties of "my computer" and the RAM usage meter, everything is showing 6GB, however, when I turn CPU-Z on, it recognizes the correct number of ram (8GB). At idle temps, motherboard runs between 23-36oC, procecssor has an 8oC temp package, GPU 37oC.

Additionally in CPU-Z, when I go to the SPD tab, Slot #3 and Slot #4 both show the correct data (ie: 4GB ram cards, week/year, DDR3, etc).

I heard that intel processors would show different number of RAM, however, I didn't hear about this problem on the AMD processors. I had the two ram cards in a different computer and they worked together just fine. It also had an AMD processor with an AM3+ motherboard.

When I put the two ram cards into this computer, I put them into the two closest slots to the CPU. After that, I put them into the same slots that I put them in on the other computer (2nd and 4th from the CPU, standard for dual gigabyte cards). This had no effect. Thanks for any advice,

Additional Details
On my PC, I run two OSs. Win 7 Ultimate 64-bit and Linux Ubuntu 12.10. When I booted Linux and typed in cat /proc/meminfo , the terminal returned some interesting values:
MemTotal: 4,030,952KB
...
..
.
SwapTotal: 8,368,124 KB
SwapFree: 8,368,124 KB

The above will only be useful for people who understand Linux (considering I am a newbie in it). If you are solely a Windows user, the above update will be useless. DO NOT use the above update to reach a conclusion based on guesses if you are not 100% you understand it.

Thanks

Also, I know it may sound crazy, but I am running the pc with a 300W Antec PSU (My 500W PSU failed when I used it in a different PC during overclocking, anyway, I am getting a new one this weekend, meanwhile I am not doing anything that would make my PC need more Wattage. Is it possible that there isn't enough Wattage flowing through the computer and therefore there is less RAM shown? I will have more information on this when I get my new psu.

One more thing, when I restart my computer and I pause on the POST screen, it says:
Memory Testing: 4078MB OK
Memory Information: DDR3 1333

Detecting IDE drives...

Does that mean that one of the RAM cards is bad? But wouldn't that mean that the system wouldn't recognize the other 2GB of RAM?

When I went into the task manager, it says:

Physical Memory (MB)
Total 4077
Cached 790
Available 2629
Free 1540

System
...
...
..
.
Commit (MB) 1608 / 8153

I don't even know... what to say... :S

@LoneTiger

I already mentioned that I have done that already in the original post :l

In the DxDiagnostic, I noticed that under:

Memory: 6133MB RAM

it says:

Page File: 1,725MB used, 6,427MB available.

These two numbers would add up to 8,152MB, sounding much more "correct".

@Adrian

According to CPU-Z, my white sockets (2nd and 4th from cpu) are sockets 3 & 4, not 2 & 4. Is that just something to do with the program or is it something to do with my computer?

Well... it might help if you put them in the right RAM slots. And if you don't know how dual channel RAM works or which is the right slot, read the motherboard manual and it will tell you.

Use slot 1 and 2. The first and third slot from the CPU. The two blue ones. There's a reason CPU-Z lables them as such.

As for only 4GB being detected in Linux, you're probably using a 32-bit version of Ubuntu. Install the 64-bit version. 4GB is the max RAM that can be used by 32-bit architecture (2^32)

You come across as arrogant claiming that Windows users won't understand the terms from Linux. The same concepts are applied in Windows OS's, they just use different names, and any Windows user who understands them understands the concept and most likely the terms used in Linux

Arrogance really isn't a healthy trait to show, especially when asking for help.

I'm making good profit with penny stock

Check here http://trade-pennystock.checkhere.info

Many new investors are lured to the appeal of a penny stock due to the low price and potential for rapid growth which may be as high as several hundred percent in a few days. Similarly, severe loss can occur and many penny stocks lose all of their value in the long term. Accordingly, the SEC warns that penny stocks are high risk investments and new investors should be aware of the risks involved but you can even make very big money. These risks include limited liquidity, lack of financial reporting, and fraud. A penny stock is a common stock that trades for less than $5 a share. While penny stocks generally are quoted over-the-counter, such as on the OTC Bulletin Board or in the Pink Sheets, they may also trade on securities exchanges, including foreign securities exchanges. In addition, penny stocks include the securities of certain private companies with no active trading market. Although a penny stock is said to be "thinly traded," share volumes traded daily can be in the hundreds of millions for a sub-penny stock. Legitimate information on penny stock companies can be difficult to find and a stock can be easily manipulated.

You are trying to identify a problem that does not actually exist.

Windows will tell you how much is installed but the amount of RAM being available will be less as some of it is "reserved for other hardware";

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/978610

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/What-is-the-difference-between-installed-and-usable-memory

So don`t worry about it, regards, Bob.

If you are using the built in video and are dedicating a lot of RAM for its use that may account for the discrepancy. Rather than use Dxdiagnostic try Speccy or Belarc advisor as the other program may have issues. As far as insufficient power causing a RAM misread - not hardly.

Well

You can speed up your pc and get rid of viruses, worms and trojans by cleaning up your register. A good free program is CCleaner. Link here http://bit.ly/UrAwwA

It's surely the leader program of its type
