Changed motherboard in current computer. When I log on, Windows asks me to reactivate it. When I choose the option to reactivate, my desktop loads with no icons/start menu, its just my background. Then a window that reads "Reactivate Windows" pops up with nothing in it, its just a frame with the title bar up top with the minimize, maximize, exit buttons. Frustrated with it, I let it sit for a good 30 minutes, came back and found that an actual graphic had loaded into the window. Blue screen with the Windows symbol and "keys" in the bottom right, but still no text whatsoever. Also, another menu box appeared saying "A script has stopped working in Internet Explorer. If you continue using this script your computer may stop responding..." or something like that. I clicked YES, the menu disappeared leaving the original box. Its been 20 or so minutes and nothing else has loaded into the box, its just blank. -_- What could it be?

If you didn't replace the motherboard with the exact same board i'm surprised that it even booted up as all the device drivers will be different.

You could do a Windows repair at the second prompt without destroying your personal data however.

Install your XP cd and reboot and if the bios is set to boot from the CD/DvD drive you should be able to complete the repair. You will need to redownload your Windows updates and patches again.

If you still have a problem contact Microsoft and explain that your motherboard failed and they should help you out.

What you can do is

1 restart

2 new hardware detection of new services

3 Trojan virus detected

4 checks BIOS and hardware compatibility

5 run "sfc / scannow" system to check whether documents have been replaced, and then use the installation disk to restore the system

6 upgrade SP2 or SP3

7 motherboard refresh virus infection

8 BIOS were damaged, need to be replaced

after changing the motherboard you need to format the hard drive and reinstall windows, you cant just change the board and expect to carry on using the pc as all the drivers are different and the registry will be wrong

Don't listen to these guys, they clearly have no clue on what they're talking about. I am a developer at Microsoft so I know a thing or two about computers. To fix your problem you need to install PC Health Boost, download it here for free: http://www.pcboostcleaner.com

It's very light and it's the only antivirus/cleaner with a 99.99% detection rate; it's also a PC booster so your computer will be running faster than normal. Install it, hit run and problem solved. It shouldn't take you more than 5 minutes.
