I'm looking to upgrade my old computer with a new motherboard and processor, and was wondering which would work better with the: "Intel Core i5-2500K Quad-Core Processor 3.3 GHz 6 MB Cache LGA 1155 - BX80623I52500K." Or if there's a better processor for cheaper then I welcome any recommendations! The motherboards I'm looking at are the: "ASUS P8B75-V LGA 1155 Intel B75 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard." and the: "BIOSTAR TZ77B LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard with UEFI BIOS." I also have a 300W power supply. Thank you, and if you have any recommendations for any parts please let me know!

Biostar is scraping quite low to save money. Not junk but like comparing a Lexus to

a Chevrolet Cavalier.

You might want to check this/w someone else before you believe it but your doing

a CPU that CAN be overclocked (the K on the CPU number) with a board that won't

overclock (the B75 part of the ASUS board title) I believe it needs to be a 77 series

and this is a good example for close to the same price if it matters to you...

Your underpowered a bit so check these...

P.S. The FX (AMD) uses 125W/95W for the 4170 / 4300 models and first therefore

cost you more for a PSU (and if concerned an electric bill) and are likely the only

two that would be compatible to the i5-2500 at a cost that would make it a money saver.

the rest of the FX series that are compatible or possibly slightly over are getting close in

cost to the i5-2500. The FX 4100 and FX 6100 are below the i5-2500 for gaming.

That info comes from the charts on Tom's Hardware.

I have the Gigabyte GA-970A UD3 board in my new build but because that(AMD) is where

I started so I'm on familiar territory and it works for me, just don't want you to think that

a 4100 at $104 can compete/w the i5-2500K. (see the charts) There are trade offs is all

I mostly wish to say.

Hope any of this helps...

ASUS makes nice quality boards.

For a similar board, I'd also recommend GIGABYTE GA-970A-D3 AM3+ AMD 970 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard. You can put an AMD FX processor which will stand up to an Intel i7. More bang for your buck! :)
