I bought a used pc. & it's way too slow on the web & just running programs. takes 1 to 3 minutes just to open up a program or the web. I ran a recovory. It deleted, & ran a fresh copy of windows xp, so there's not a lot of programs on it. But still too slow. Here's some system specs.

Thanks if anyone can tell me what I need to upgrade on it to make it run faster. & I know some of you may say it, so I will now. Why not just buy a new one right? Well if I can fix this one, why spend $2500 for one? But thanks again.

I'm sorry, but there is hardly any way of upgrading your PC.

Your CPU is extremely slow and old, and thats why your Internet Browser is going so slow, since new browsers require at least new generation processors with about 1000MHz and new instructions. Your processor is old, slow and really outdated.

Your biggest problem is that you have 64 RAM, which I had at 1999. Windows XP needs at least 256 Ram in order to operate at all without going into slow (swapping hard disk) mode.

There is hardly any chance of finding SD Ram (I asume it is since I have zero informations about your RAM or Motherboard) which you have, because it stopped producting 10 years ago. If you can find SD Ram anywhere, try to buy 256 Ram. It will speed up your PC a bit. If you have DDR ram, then you can get 256 DDR ram in some well equiped PC store.

I'd highly suggest you NOT to upgrade you 1999 PC and buy a New one. New (cheap) PCs are about 400$ and they work really good with Internet, Music, Videos, Images and even games.

Here's something for you: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883114080 its 309$ and all you need to do is get another 100$ for Monitor, and you're good to go with all the stuff you ever wanted to work good and fast.

Upgrading to Windows 7 should fix most of these problems. Windows 7 has a much better operating system and is generally much faster and more efficient at processing information and data. I have personally found Windows Vista to be really slow and painful to have on a computer, and is just a very bad system to have. Spending money on Wondows 7 would be a great investment in my opinion, and it would be well worth your while :).

The processor itself seems quite slow at 748Mhz A lot of processors these days are at least 2.5 times faster. I am not sure exactly how much RAM you have either from your figures but a machine that old probably only has something like 256Mb which is not really enough to run XP properly

Try going to crucial.com and see if they have any RAM upgrades for your machine. The only other possibility that I can think of is a new motherboard and processor

The Windows Registry is the master control center for your operating system and applications it runs. Corruption or overload registry issues can cause all sorts of pc performance problems, including poor application startup times, slow Windows start-up, extremely slow shut down, slow internet surfing, inability to resume from computer sleep and more.Cleaning, compacting, and optimizing your Windows registry can go a long way to dramatically speeding up your computer’s performance, start-up and shutdown speed.
