Ill try and explain in as much detail as i can.

i was sitting using my Pc the other day when a messager came up saying somthing like" your computer will shut down in 59 seconds...etc etc(cant remember the details).

I rebooted it will no problems but then 2 things happened

1. iTunes would not load up.It kept syaing access to a program files could not be verified.

2.I could not update AVG Antivirus as it said there was not enough memory for update(this was not the case as update was 13k and i had 2gig avaliable)

I found these 2 problems were common as i checked some forums ( although strange they happened at the same time , and after the random shutdown!!!) and so decided to uninstall AVG and then Reinstall..
However when i tried to run the unistall wizard it came up "9 errors" and would not uninstall...

I decided to shut down the computer and reboot thinking perhaps this would sort things out

But now it wont reboot and now says "FAILURE IMMINENT Please back up files " Which of course i cant as it wont boot

This all happened within an hour and has stumped my so my question is WHAT HAS HAPPENED..
.and secondly can i attach this computer to another computer somehow and retrieve the 2000 songs i spent a year uploading from mine and freinds CD's...

Im gutted and thank anyone in advance for any answers and suggestion Thank you

It sounds like corrupt files or a virus attack.

First, I would take the hard-drive out and attach it to someone else PC to recover any data you can. Make sure the computer you hook it to has updated virus definitions.

After you've backed up all your data... I would perform a clean install of Windows. After that copy your data back over.

previous to passage of the flexibility Reform Act of 2005, Microsoft living house windows replaced into programmed to calculate the starting up of DST because the first Sunday in April and the great on the surprising Sunday in October. If the using patch isn't utilized, think about to manually improve the equipment clock one hour on March 11. On April a million, at the same time as living house windows bypass the clock ahead think about to diminish back it up an hour. an similar procedure will ensue in October and November at the same time as the swap decrease back to traditional time takes position. this finished state of affairs will repeat itself each and every spring and autumn except the patch is put in.

Disable the SMART drive feature in the BIOS settings.

Run an Anti-Malware program

Burn your music.

Then get a new drive.

Here is a Free option that may work for you... I had to command line mount the drive from Linux for someone who had the same message FAILURE IMMINENT Please back up files. Your hard drive is crashing, but with a Linux Live CD you will have much better chance at backing up your files.

I found an excellent guide with pictures online (I have done this on my own and works GREAT, FREE, and is EASY) I did not know about this guide until I just did the search now.) (First Link under Sources)

- does not require System Restore CD or XP Operating System CD that came with your computer, if you don't care about reinstalling Windows XP

- Requires a CD-R (Blank disk) OR you can order a CD for a couple of dollars online from their websites. (if you purchase the CD online, skip to step 4 when you get the CD)

- gets rid of all your programs but allows you to keep all personal documents, pictures, music

1) Go to a working computer with internet access and at least a CD burner (another you own, friends, work, etc..) .

2) Depending on your Computer Specs, download the following .iso file

384mb+ Ubuntu 8.04, Kubuntu 8.04, PCLinoxOS, Freespire (not sure: choose Ubuntu 8.04 at (www.ubuntu.com then click get ubuntu and go download the .iso file)

256-384mb Xubuntu 8.04

64-256mb PCLinixOS TinyMe

Under 64mb Deli Linux

3) Burn the .iso file to a CD using a CD burner program that can burn ISO files. (Not sure: Google/Yahoo Online with your program and .iso)

- If still not sure program will burn .iso files, for windows machines download isorecorder (Please pick the right version for the version of windows you have), download and install. Then right click on the .iso file and there will be an option to Burn to CD.

Please Note: After the CD is burned, if you look at the contents on the CD and see other stuff besides the .iso file, then it worked, if you just see the .iso file then it was not burnt correctly,

4) Once you get a correctly burned CD, go back to your computer and stick the CD in your drive.

5) Reboot computer, when screen goes black (if your computer is within the past 5 years hit F12 key for a bunch of times, a menu will come up) OR go into Bios and make sure that your computer is set to boot of the CD/DVD drive first.

6) Linux (Ubuntu, etc..) CD will boot up as a "Live CD" with options, Deli Linux will have to be installed.

7a) First time, for all but Deli Linux, choose Try without installing, after booted, you should be able to use the computer for internet, word processing, etc,,m viewing and pictures, documents, images on your hard drive.

If it won't let you mount the drive try going to Applications->Accesories->terminal

then

sudo mkdir /media/windows

sudo mount /dev/(yourdevice) /media/windows -o force

Aprox time for me:

-download 700mb .iso file (10-15 minutes)

- Burn .iso to a CD (5-10 minutes)

- Boot the computer from the CD (time to boot), I can view all of the information including open word, excel, etc.. files with openoffice.

- Learn the differences and looks of different Desktops/Windowing Systems for Linux KDE, Gnome, XFCE, etc...

Ubuntu uses Gnome, Kubuntu is a KDE version of Ubuntu, Xubuntu is an XFCE version of Ubuntu,

PCLinxOS, Freespire use KDE..

PCLinuxOS Tinyme is a cut down version for older computers of PCLinuxOS.

- Don't base your choice simply on the look of the Linux Distribution since it is easy to change it to make it look like the other or OS X, or Windows, or anything you like

- Follow steps for Option B above to restore the files to Windows...

- in linux copy all your documents and personal files to your users home directory (/home/[username])

- install gparted or qparted from add/remove or Synaptic package manager (simply click on checkbox and then apply)

- shrink windows partition down to make room for a fat partition large enough to hold your windows files

- create the fat partition

- copy your personal windows files, etc.. to the fat partition just created, reinstall windows..

(your D: drive will be the copied software)...

- And then either reinstall ubuntu without formating the ubuntu partition OR restore the Grub Menu (the menu when you first turn on the computer to choose Ubuntu or Windows) so you have both linux (or ubuntu) and Windows,
