I know no one knows but I am looking for expert opinions. We have a very nice Visual FoxPro program that runs on these operating systems. We have to make a decision whether to change languages or stay with Visual FoxPro. Microsoft will no longer support Visual FoxPro in 2015 but as long as we can get computers that run XP/Vista/Windows 7 we are OK.

Well from what I know,

Windows XP has reached end of general availability status from June 30, 2008 onwards for OEM builders. Windows XP has also reached end of general availability status from January 31, 2009 for System Builders.

Vista for one would be reaching end of life status from April 10, 2012 and would not be available after January 2011

About Windows 7, I'm not that sure. Though from what it seems at Microsoft's internal policy that theur OS are made available for at least four years after their introduction.

I hope this answer is enough for you.

The idea that the windows empire will no longer be prevalent in the future is absurd. Windows will be around till the end of earth as we know it.

Each time windows makes a new operating system it makes sure it is compatible with xp and the tons of old software and hardware millions of people may sitll have. This way they insure that no one has any problems. Because of this you can know that the way you are writing your scripts or what not is perfectly fine forever and they will run the same way basically on each new operating system windows comes out with.

furthermore, even if you purchase a mac or even a netbook with linux, you can still easily install the windows operating system on it without any problems. everything is compatible with each other and the only things that change between the machines you see is performance and logos found on the thing.

What on earth would make you think computers will stop running today's OSs?

I can still run MS-DOS, windows 2.11, windows 95/98 and whatever else is out there since the 80s and 90s.

Newer OSs take advantage of newer architectures, but that doesn't mean that newer architectures won't run older OSs.

You just can't run many newer OSs on older architecture, is all.

Windows 7 would be available at most at 2013, so good luck trying to get something else on there
