Question:
Automatic Standby/Hibernation issues?

Background: I have an Emachine desktop, roughly 5 years old, Windows XP. It goes into Standby and Hibernation fine when I do it manually.

Problem: It doesn't go into standby automatically! I have it set for 20 min but it never works. Now is it because I have the "turn off hard disks" and "turn off monitor" set to never?? Sometimes I hear a clicking sound as if it's trying to standby but can't...

I have it set to hibernate after two hours. It does hibernate if I manually put it on standby--when I come back after two hours, its in hibernation. It also works if I hibernate it manually.

But sometimes I'll find it on for hours--apparently standby doesn't work, which in turn is why it never hibernates, since thats set for a longer period of idle time.

Any ideas?? Thanks!

Maybe it's a program that's preventing your computer from going into an idle state.

Are you using anything in the background that could be causing this?

Other automated tasks can also reset the idle timer and delay or even prevent your computer from entering standby mode, including:

Scheduled tasks

Paging operations

The loading of services or drivers

Windows Update checking the system state

Event logging

Network detection, such as DHCP or Autonet

Third-party services, such as quota software or an antivirus program

Water pump impellers do bypass undesirable! there is also a cavitation problem some circumstances as they age. So i'd suspect perhaps the water pump. very last 12 months, my Miata began overheating on grades. It develop right into a failing fan relay. on the time i develop into on a street holiday. So I used a tooth p.c.. contained in the relay (I had to take the relay aside to attempt this) to keep the criteria closed and the electric powered followers on the radiator operating. I took the relay out at the same time as i finished for the day to keep the battery from operating down. once you've electric powered followers, you would possibly want to desire to attempt this and be conscious if it facilitates. in case you do not have a electric powered followers on the radiator, then it might want to be the fan take carry of. replace the fan and take carry of assembley with a flex fan might want to be my advice if it really is the case.

set the "turn off hard disks" and "turn off monitor" to turn off after a certain amount of time and you should be just fine.
