The Pentium 4 is from a decade ago, and painful for anything beyond browsing or office work.

I've personally thrown away a bunch of Optiplexes from about six years back. Many of these have the "capacitor plague"—faulty motherboard components that cause a whole list of seemingly unrelated problems.

The 1GB of RAM will be strained by Windows 7. XP, although older, performs slightly better with less RAM. The various Linux distros may also.

Everything else sounds okay, but I'm paid to use computers like these at work—they don't pay me enough.

Avoid this particular offering, and better luck searching.

Check Crucial.com to see what the maximum RAM & speed of the RAM is for that model - and if it is DDR2 or DDR3, so you can upgrade it by adding more RAM to speed it up. Windows 7 does better with more than 1GB of RAM - 4GB will max out a 32 bit operating system - installing more than the computer & operating system can use is not going to help.
