Looking at Gateways motherboards for this serious... it looks like the SATA ports are in the bottom right corner underneath the Molex Power input. If you orient the board so that the CPU is at the top and the memory slots are at the right, look in the lower right hand corner from there, should be black plugs. Link is to an image of your motherboard.

Look where other drives plug in at such as your DVD drive and your old hard drive. There should be at least 4-6 SATA ports total on your motherboard (unless its of a weird design).

Sometimes the ports are blue or yellow so just look closely. Sometimes they are on the side of the motherboard like on the edge but usually are front facing.

SATA ports look very similar to USB ports, except they are slightly smaller and they have a little nub on one side.

If you're having trouble finding it, I recommend that you locate your current hard drive in the computer and simply follow the cable back to your motherboard. In most desktops the hard drives are mounted towards the front of the machine and usually on little shelves near the bottom, underneath the CD drive(s).
