hi all i recently got a new gaming pc which i play all games on max settings. the other day my ambient case temp went up to 43C, so i decided to install speedfan. to monitor gpu amd cpu temps. it then said thats my cpu temp(just after playing a game) was at 87C (188F) ???!! i then thought something was wrong with speed fan(it even had a little flame next to the temp) .i then downloaded CPUID monitor and once again temps were between 85 - 88C! my cpu fan is running 100% (2262rpm) cpu idling is 38C(100F)
this is my rig
intel i7 870 @ 2.93
4 gb ram ddr3 1333mhz
intel h55 mobo
1TB internal and 1TB external
msi nvidia gtx 460 1Gb
A-open case (not to sure what model)

No, SpeedFan is an over clocking software, look for "configure" on the window, select the "Advanced" tab use the drop down and look for your motherboard, then find ALL your fans and click them individually and use the other drop down near the bottom and select "Manually controlled" for all of them. When your done select "OK" and then on the main window you will see your fans under your temperatures, and bring them up to 100 or to a speed you prefer.

Unless you get up to heats over 95°C you should be fine, do you overclock? These temps are very high for a brand new system. You can buy a pci fan to cool your GPU even more or just plug a fan next to your open case, it will keep the dust out (which clogs the fans) and lower the temp in your whole case.

Edit: Do not bother taking the cpu and heat-sink (or fan) out, since it's a brand new computer the thermal compound is fine and the cpu is well seated, or it won't even work.

I'm going to go with speedfan being wrong, Speedfan thinks my CPU is at 75C, it never changes no matter what i'm doing. Coretemp puts the cores at about 35C at the moment.

Try something else see if it still gives you a high reading.

If after trying something else its still high, check your fans and check your heatsink on the CPU isnt loose.

Any style of overclocking will shrink the CPU existence. in the journey that your PSU is inadequate, which will additionally influence the cpu lifespan. in case you increment extra advantageous than 0.5 at anybody time, which will additionally reuce the existence span and conceivable burn out the cpu. until you completely comprehend the operations required for overclocking, do no longer do it. you somewhat are not getting that plenty extra oomph and you in addition to mght risk the prospect of burning out the CPU, and additionally probable the ram circuitry.

Put more cooling fans in or a aftermarket CPU cooler

But first I would take the heatsink off the cpu and put new thermal grease on and make sure its seated properly

Such PC needs a cooling system, and not a simple speedfan!
