Question:
What does AMD do better than intel(performance wise)?

I'm building a gaming desktop, and I know intel is better than AMD in some cases when gaming. Sometimes AMD does better than the Intel processor in the said price range due to the game supporting multithreading, I get that, but most games have AMD at a disadvantage(no multithreading or game just has no use for anything extra AMD has to offer as oppose to intel). But a 4-core 4 thread Intel has a better performance in game than an AMD 6-8 core now and again(AMD 4 core I've heard doesn't do very well at all, despite games need a minimum of 4 cores).

I wonder if that changes for any other uses rather than gaming such as video editing and image editing(and related, anything really rather than gaming).

To cut the crap, I'm just wondering if there are any uses for computing that the AMD will do better at than Intel, and why?

As other people said Intel beats AMD hands down, any day of the week. I say this as an AMD fanboy...their CPU lineup has grown dated in recent years. Even their flagship processor lags behind an i3 in some tests.

Really, the only advantage they have is the price, and not even that when Haswell releases and the current Intel stock is driven down in price. Granted, AMD probably will too, so we as consumers win :D

Pick up an i5 quadcore and you're all set.

I just bought AMD Fx 8350( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7td96oyniyk ) processor and an Asus Crosshair V Formula-Z( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m8izSErV5Ds ) for less the price you'd buy for Intel i5 and an expensive motherboard to go with it. If you buy AMD it has a lot of disadvantages as well as advantages.

Probably the worst disadvantage to AMD is power consumption which is not bad if you're in US.

Probably the best advantage to AMD is the price. Also Amds motherboards sockets have a lot more features than the Intels

The Amd Fx 8350 is compared to Intel i7 in many benchmarks...Intel beats the Amd of course..but for what price..If you'd buy an Intel processor at the same price as the Amd...Amd will win everytime..

AMD due to it's multi cores and multi threads is very good at streaming in comparison to Intel.

Just have a look at this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eu8Sekdb-IE

OR this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z22oXfximsk

Amd are very bad at single core.

Both companies are great...The choice is yours. Hope it helps

Graphic card plays a major role in gaming rigs and Processors have very little to do with gaming. It doesn't matter if you are using an Intel or AMD . Performance depends on the Graphics card, Ram and Data transfer Speed (Hard Disk).

My suggestion is AMD coz it will deliver good video perforamce, good multi tasking and above all BANG FOR THE BUCK......

AMD with a good graphics card can be just as good as an Intel build but intel will always win gaming wise .

With AMD you usually get more performance for your money. Also note that as of now on games will be far more optimised for AMD processors thanks to the next gen consoles using AMD hardware. Just have a look at Crysis 3 benchmarks for proof.

"To cut the crap" as you say, buy Intel.

AMD is less expensive, but for what you want to do, you want at least an i5 processor, an i7 will be even better.

But the fastest i7 you can afford, and don't look back.

this is an extraordinary processor. i'm unsure the way you controlled to get 2.5 GB of RAM, yet 2GB of RAM and that photos card, coupled with that processor, supply you a workstation able to enjoying virtually any modern workstation activity.
