I am getting a 750ti FTW and it comes with the driver cd but should I just go on nvidias website and download the new ones and discard the disk? Or is there something on the disk I need.

Download the NVidia driver. The 750Ti is a few years old now. There is no way of telling how old the driver on the disc is. There is no point in installing an old driver just to have it update itself anyway. Getting drivers from NVidia is the best way to make sure you have up-to-date graphics drivers.

The only time you want to use a previous driver version is if you are having issues with your video card. Rolling back to a previous driver version helps to confirm or eliminate driver issues as a cause. Other than that, stay current.

One thing i never do is throw away a software disc in case i need to convert back to the original settings in case the update fails, usually when i install a nvidia gpu i use the software cd drivers to see if the display graphics is really working from the gpu before installing the update from nvidia .com

Why not install it? It is the professional installation disk. When you install from it, the disk will probably launch an on line update check, anyway. It may be more than a driver disk. It may have a very useful control panel.
