The first thing to remember is that the Mac doesn't open files. Applications open files. What application on the Mac are you using to open the files? Are you using the File menu of that application or just double-clicking? Also, did you try opening the files from the Mac before you save them to the server? In other words, while they are still on your personal computer? Just for a test, try downloading a simple photo from the Internet of type JPEG on your Windows box. Now save it to the server. Try to open it from the Mac. If it opens but other files don't open, you have an issue that is related to the file type and how it is saved on the server. Have you tried to save a file from the Mac to the server after the "crash"? And if you can save them successfully, can you open them again from the Mac using the same application that created them? Also, after saving a file to the server from the Mac, can you open the file from your Windows box using the equivelant application? After the "crash" on the server, what steps were taken to get it up again? Was the hard drive replaced or only reformatted? Was the file system the same or changed? Examples are FAT32 and NTFS. Which Mac are you using and which version of the OS? I didn't give you a solution but I gave you the type of info we need to find the solution.

This could be either drive issue or security.

Drive could be full ? go to my computer right click on drive select properties what is free space ?

also does it need defrag ?

Security... do you have admin account type... if not maybe you are only allowed save file rights to your own folder ? check in My Documents is anything you tried to save in there.

Also there are many programs out there that keep you from being able to save.

When you said re-installing didn't work out it could help if you explain just how it didn't work out.

If this your computer or a public type (school, cafe, etc).

There is always a way...if this is your computer and it's restricting you when you check out drive properties make note of drive mfg and model number you may have to go to mfg site and download drive utils and really clean that drive out....

This type of problem is impossible to diagnose without further information... especially if you have already asked experts that physically examined your system and you reinstalled the OS.

find a pc shop that will offer a free diagnosis.

check if your using a correct path where to save the files or check if there is available space on your harddrive.
