OK heres the stats. My computer froze. I turned it off by the power button as there was no other way. Push it again to turn it on. Screen said no signal, dvd drive flashing and fans at max speed. i tried putting recovery disc in but it doesn't boot. I have triedd reseting the bios from the motherboard and taking my cmos battery out. all cables are placed correctly. Thanks in advance

Good followup info, that helps eliminate some possible reasons.

Sorry, it looks very bad for this computer. The fact that you don't even see the Compaq logo and you are sure the monitor is okay is a bad sign. Since the power is on, it is probably not the power supply. It still could be, but unlikely, especially since what started all this was it locking up.

This needs to go to the shop :-(

Get an estimate, it might not be worth fixing.

Hmm it sounds as though you have gone from a working system to a “no POST” situation which usually means that a piece of hardware has failed. Performing the steps needed for POST test troubleshooting may not resolve the issue for you but it may help narrow down which piece of hardware needs to be replaced.

Are you using a video card and if so can you remove it and use onboard video to try and POST test the system?

There is a good guide here with all the detailed steps for troubleshooting a no POST system. Might be worth taking a look for anything you have not already tried:

Monitor went bad? could be a possibility .. not quite sure.. some questions here are difficult to answer without actually seeing what's happening and what's going on. but that would be my best guess b/c your getting power and obviously everything is running but just no video so i would say try a different video card or try onboard video just some troubleshooting solutions

woops i'm stupid and try a different monitor =]

i assume that u have saved extra information to boot as softwares on your hard disk. Delete some softwares or information documents those are no longer useable to any extent further. Your ram is having much less memory.Have a intense memory card merely like 512 mb. it could velocity up your computing gadget definately.Run defragmenter or scandisk which could additionally remedy your issues too.
