I am a junior in high school and have to decide soon on which laptop to get for high school. Is it worth it to buy an expensive Macbook pro or just a regular PC laptop? My main concern is whether or not Mac can support the same systems as PC can, and I'm also afraid if it is going to be a hassle to open files and stuff. and i also heard a rumor that Mac's cant run video files? Gaming is also a concern because i do game occasionally. So basically i need a good college laptop that i can use for school and for casual needs. thank you

Not rocket science here, Macs cost twice as much and can not run 95% of software most pc's can, So, your answer is get a good pc laptop. ~

I use a Mac and you can get programs (Free and commercial) which support Windows formats such as for word documents. I use Neo Office to open Word documents. It is completely free.

Macs can run video files. Some people are stupid so ignore them.

Macs have an increasing amount of games available to them. Lot's of free ones but big games as well. Portal is an example of a big game now available for OSX.

It depends what games you want. I personally like to use my PS3.

You can also use Windows on a Mac but I would never do that personally.

I should say Macs last a long time so when you spread the cost over the years you can use it, it's often more cost effective and yet Macs are more reliable and faster with greater premium features.

Macs are PCs. I assumed you meant Windows PCs.

Mac everytime. It can do everything a PC does, and usually better.

Can't run videos? The gold standard of video production software is FinalCut Pro, a Mac only application.

With a Mac, you can natively run four different operating systems: Mac OS, Windows, Linus, and UNIX. So ultimately, no software is out of reach. You can't come close to that flexibility with a PC.

I use a Mac all day at work, and there has never been a file I couldn't open.

The cheapest Mac is the Mac Mini at $600. Their low end laptop is $999.

Set up a PC with the same hardware, software, and reliability, and the PC will cost more than a Mac.

Mac.

Yes, Mac is more expensive and can be a little difficult when your switching from PC but it has a lot of better programs and can be easy to use.

Some people say that Macs break easily and crash a lot but I've had mine for 6 years, it's working better than ever, and it hasn't crashed once.

PC is a lot more compatible with gaming but Mac is good for things like school projects(Keynote, iMovie, etc.) and it's DOES run a lot of the same things Windows can. Except zip files... I had trouble with those.

Speaking from experience with both, Windows is great for business type work, games, and not-so-high budgets but are prone to viruses and can be slow when in comes to functioning(I personally haven't tried Windows 7 though). Mac is easy to use, long-lasting, has great programs but can be a little slow when it comes to internet.

And YES! MAC RUNS VIDEO FILES! I have tons of useless ones on mine this very second!

If you are getting a computer for School and plan on doing gaming get a PC. PC are much cheaper for better parts and they will do everything you need them to do. Macs are perfectly fine but are a little more costly and specialize in Multi Media. Yes, Macs can play games but the Mac game market is tiny compared to the PC market.

Mac is for professional use, and they look good. However, if you're just looking for "casual needs", no need to waste money on professional stuff, a pc is better in that case, because most programs are designed for pc, and i bet more buddies will have pc's making it easier to share your stuff.

Seems to me A PC suits you best as a mac is mostly used for multimedia and its not that good at gaming.
