Turning on my computer takes forever. Windows will open pretty quick... but i absolutely cannot do anything for about 15 min until an error report comes up. Once that error report comes up i can go about my business. If i try to do anything like open up a program nothing happens, and you can hear the computer "thinking". Its an older sony viao, and brand new it was one of the quickest computers i've ever been on... now it's just completely clogged up with windows updates and security updates that it won't let me erase. Is there any way to fix it up... clean out the c drive so it will run smoother? I already do the performance and maintenance like debugging and scanning for temporary files and what not that can be erased.

Also I downloaded a few hd movies, one 720 the other 1080 and I can't play them with out it breaking up or running all choppy.

What can i do? Please don't say get a new computer... i'm broke and just got laid off.

One more thing.. I don't have any spyware or viruses, at least i don't think i do. I use trend micro pc online internet security.

You have too many processes running. THis can be solved by getting rid of programs you don't need.

Sounds like you have some serious issues here, it's unlikely a 15 minute start up would be caused by junk files or too many processes running, and you say it's not a virus..

Perhaps try backing up all of your personal files, then re-installing the Operating System (either insert the original CD, or go to System Restore if you don't have it), it's a ***** but it really is the surest way of getting rid of any problems. It took me about 5-6 hours to get this done, and the issues my laptop had were gone.

When you reinstall make sure you don't install any useless bloaty programs, only the stuff you need.

Other than that someone else may give you some help in changing settings, but the cleanest way to do it is above I think.

First do a solid Virus test and spyware test. you may get AVG an Adaware unfastened from their internet site. Do a disc freshen up for greater beneficial velocity Now right here is the relaxing section: i anticipate you're utilising living house windows. click start up--> Run Now type "msconfig" without the expenses. while you're on Vista in simple terms type msconfig interior the quest bar click on the beginning up-up tab you will see that what courses are working at start up-up, and disable those that are no longer needed. hassle-free issues that are no longer all that needed are start up-united statesthrough adobe, java,Quicktime, Microsoft Groove show screen. yet you may continually re-enable those you disable so do no longer difficulty, you will no longer smash something whenever you are trying this you may desire to restart your device. as quickly because it restarts you will get an annoying pop-up. you may accurately tell it to no longer launch gadget Config on each and every start up-up from this pop-up

Check and see how much space you have remaining on your hard drive. If near full, delete as much as possible.

Smart fix. Save all files to external hard drive or disk. Buy new computer. You will be fighting a losing battle and it is not worth the aggravation.

Suggest you get on line and check the refurbished section of computer manufacturers. Can get great buys.

Run a registry cleaner, it usually helps in making programs use less ram than they usually need to. You could also get rid of programs you no longer use/ don't need.
