2013-01-20 05:13:24 UTC
Hi i am looking to build a gaming computer for around £750 not including the monitor. Ive been using the website PCspecialist and Ive come up with this computer... Let me know if you think the specs look good and any suggestions would be a great help!
Processor- Intel Core i7, i7-3770 (3.4GHz)
Montherboard- ASUS P8Z77-M:MICRO-ATX, USB 3.0, SATA 6GBs, ATI CrossFireX
Graphics card- 2GB NVIDIA Geforce GTX 660
Memory- 1tb 3.5 SATA
Power supply- 650W
Cooling- Intel Socket LGA1155
Sound- 5.1 high defo audio
Total-£745
and a ACER monitor 23.6" 1080p Full HD, HDMI Connection
Cost- £104
Tell me what you think... and if there's any changes you would make to make the computer better... Ive also been told that a i5 is better for gaming then a i7 is that correct?

in my opinion you don't need that processor. so here's what id build

i5 3570

8GB Samsung 1333MHz

2GB GTX 660

500GB hdd (its enough and if you run out of space use external devices)

Corsair enthusiast series 650w TX650

super quiet 22dBA triple copper heatpipe

for sound use the motherboards integrated sound

for the case use the third along

its a little bit more expensive due to better cooling, PSU and case the case will be better vented than the other and this configuration will be better for what you need. use the £450-£1500 rather than the £300-£800 because you get better parts.

hope this helps

You're building a gaming computer and you don't even know that a hard drive is NOT MEMORY????

Your RAM is memory, hard drives are storage devices.

About your build:

You don't need an i7-3770 for gaming, save £60 or more and get an Intel Core i5-3570K, best gaming processor (CPU), not just any i5....

A sound card is another big waste of money, your ASUS P8Z77 motherboard has excellent Realtek ALC887 8 channels onboard HD 7.1 surround sound, you don't need a sound card.

Get GeForce GTX660 Ti, much better than the non-Ti version.

Samsung RAM sucks, get either G.Skill Ripjaws X Series or Corsair Vengeance, dual channel kit 8GB (two x 4GB) DDR3 1600Mhz.

For gaming, an after market CPU (processor) cooler is a must, get at least a Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO.

EDIT:

Cheesyboy is right.

NEVER CHEAP OUT ON YOUR POWER SUPPLY, it's the engine that drives your entire computer.

Only buy a reliable brand name like Corsair, Thermaltake, Cooler Master, Enermax, Antec, XFX, Seasonic, OCZ, or Silverstone.

Make sure it's an 80 plus certified power supply (80 plus means guaranteed over 80% of rated power in actual output)

Looks pretty good

Well, the i5 3570 is not better than the i7 3770 for gaming, but the point here is, it will perform exactly the same for games for $100 less. So you should go with the i5 3570 or 3570K and put the $100 something else like an SSD hard drive or maybe a better video card

You don't have any memory listed either. I'd say 8 GB of 1600 mhz RAM would be fine. Memory- 1tb 3.5 SATA - That is hard drive storage, not memory. Don't see a case listed

You don't need a sound card either, and a standard ATX board would be better than micro

A £14 case on a £750 build?! Nice.

Make sure you have considered cooling; that cheap case wont have been designed with high-end graphics cards in mind

You haven't specified which brand of power supply you are opting for. Dont go cheap; the budget ones have a near-50% 1-year failure rate, and when they do fail, they can often take out your other, more expensive parts. For that rig, you dont need 650w (unless you have plans to add a second graphics card in the future?) so get a Corsair, Ocz, or similar reputable branded 500w PSU.

As the previous guy said, an i7 has no advantages in gaming compared with an i5, so you can save money by going for the 3570k (or the cheaper 3570 if you dont intend to overclock it)

I have made a gaming computer from scratch recently. By looking at your specs i have read, i can happily say that what u have there is a very good gaming computer. Here are my ideas and suggestions.

Processor: your processor is great although it cannot be overclocked. It is Ivy Bridge compatable which means it unlocks some features such as Gen3 PCIe 3.0 16x ports. i5 supports Hyperthreading but when you go for a i7 3770 it has way too many features which just beats i5 no matter what ppl say. besides i7 has more multitasking and sounds better to tell ppl than i5 dont you think. So yea u got a great processor dont change it and dont go for 2011 pin LGA CPU as you will need a new Mother Board and you will get ripped off with sandy bridges that dont support PCIe 3.0 gen3 yet and when they come out, they will prolly cost like 800$. trust me the LGA 1155 vs 2011 LGA is very little difference but in price it is a major difference.

Motherboard: Judging by your Motherboards multiple features, i will say that its a great decision if your a radeon AMD fan. I'll explain why soon. From what ive also discovered, your motherboard PCIe slots arent too bad. The 3.0 x16 port is great for 1 GPU card. If your looking for SLI/Crossfire then i must tell you that the 2 GPU cards will have to be Radeon indentical GPU cards. Nvidia SLI isnt supported in this MotherBoard but crossfire AMD is so if u do wish to have 2 Radeon GPUs then yes you may have Dual GPU support.

Graphic Card: As ive stated previously you will not be able to use Nvidia GPUs in SLI (ive referenced a link explaining more about Crossfire). But anyways enough about that. the GTX 660 GPU is great. Its a magnificent card. The only thing that bumped me off about it is that for 50$ more you can go from 192-bit to 256-bit with 670 GTX. This means more bandwith = more performance FPS but im not saying the 660 isnt badass as it is still a beast of performance. Note: the 660 GTX isnt Over Clockable but the GTX 660 ti is.

Memory: 8gb ram is great at uDIMM 1333MHz. It will play games of today. HD modded games maybe not too well (Dont quote me on this). For more graphical games id suggest 16GB of Corsair Vengeance ram. 32GB is a waste because my machiene doesnt reach no where near it as mine has 32GB aswell. 8GB ram with Multitasking applications will handle well upto a certain point as do many rams depending on the GB.

Note: 1800MHz is needed for Overclocking.

Power Supply PSU: the Watts of the PSU should be able to handle your set up. Make sure your PSU is Micro compatable uATX and has the output cords for your periphirels and hardware.

Cooling: yes you need a cooling that supports 1155pin LGA slot but you havent given a type of cooling device. might i suggest that for what u will be doing, the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo should do you finely, its a 4 pin Cooling fan which matches your Mother Moard and CPU nicely.

Sound: the 5.1 from the Rear I/O should be fine for what u need. You can configure your 5.1 setup in Realtek Audio Software. your Mother Board supports 8.0 from Realteck onboard so dont go wasting money on sound when that should do all you need.

Case: make sure its a uATX Case that will support your DVD drive Bay, HDD bay, PSU input and most especially your Mother Board uATX. so Micro all the way :)

In summary, for a hard core gamer i am. I would say you machiene is fairly sweet and will play Max Payne at 40-60 FPS on ultra (dont quote me on this). so hey its pretty good and dont be discouraged. Also for Hard Drive id suggest a 2.5" SSD for ultimate speeds and rendering which will boost your games dramaticly. I brought a 120GB SSD for 100$ whcih has been so great. For example: Minecraft is not even a secon and its all rendered with a 512x512 Texture pack and all. 100+FPS. So i suggest looking around where you live and also make sure your case has a 2.5" drive bay. If it doesnt then id suggest buying a 2.5" Mount Bracket to make it fit a 3.5 drive bay"

I hope ive helped and enjoy your Gaming machine. Go get em!

six hundred money is an extremely lower priced for a good gaming computing device. i desire to advise putting in those aspects: Intel I5 3770K Asus Sabertooth 990X motherboard And a good photographs card with a minimum of a million gig of memory I even have an extremely gaming computing device, that's a dream gadget. It has an I7 and a team of alternative extremely superb aspects, and it got here out at approximately 3122 money wish you get a good one!
