Hello Perry S:

There are two possible reasons for your Desktop Icons to be missing from the Windows XP desktop and each requires you to check

(or reset) the appropriate option to make them appear.

The 1st step would be to check that the necessary icons are set to be visible on the desktop which you can do by following the path outlined below:

a) Right-click an empty spot on your desktop >> Hover your mouse cursor over the Arrange Icons By menu listing >> Click the Show Desktop Icons listing so that a checkmark appears next to it

(Be advised that the 2 previous answers refer to the "View" option, but that is available in Windows Vista and is not an option in XP).

The 2nd possibility would be that the icons were never apparent on the desktop because they were never selected for inclusion in XP's advanced properties menu. To check that possibility (if the 1st step doesn't solve the issue) follow this path:

b) Right-click an empty spot on your desktop >> Select the Properties option >> Select the Desktop tab >> next select the Customize Desktop button near the bottom of the window >> now on the General tab you will see either 3 or 4 checkboxes for some Windows appropriate icons which you will select to make visible >> lastly click the OK button.

I hope this has been of some help.

Right Click on your Desktop. Select View--> Show Desktop Icons. Should be visible now.

Boot up your computer.

Drag your mouse just to the right of the start button in the bottom left-hand corner of your screen.

Right click. A menu should appear. At the bottom of the menu, select "properties".

Check the box that says "Show Quick Launch."

Voila! The show desktop button should now appear right next to the start button in the bottom left-hand corner of your screen.

Hope above suggestion helps you.

you may purely delete icons (they're purely shortcuts), this would possibly not impact the corresponding courses. in case you prefer to take Microsoft's icons off the laptop, acquire TweakUI (document TweakUiSetup.exe) style Microsoft. this might do this the better way. And it has so lots extra sensible feachures.
