Lately, whenever I try to run Disk Defragmenter, an error box comes up saying "Disk Defragmenter has detected that Chkdsk is scheduled to run on the volume : (C:). Please run Chkdsk/f." This message comes up whenever I try to analyze. I've tried doing a cleanup first but still get the same results. I also ran chkdsk from the run option in the start menu, but that hasn't helped either. All help will be greatly appreciated and 10 points for the best answer. Thank you.

Follow these steps, and then quit Registry Editor:

1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.

2. Locate and then click the following key in the registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\BootExecute

3. On the Edit menu, click Modify.

4. Type autocheck autochk *, and then press ENTER.

Restart your computer and run disk defragmenter.

Try using a third party defragmenter, Diskeeper is the best IMO. With it you need not worry about any background programs causing the defrag to hang etc. Just set it on auto mode and see if the problem is solved. Here is a free trial
