If your virus/spyware free, there are a couple things you can do get your computer working faster. If you using your computer for normal stuff and not gaming. You don't always need more RAM you just need to perform a few maintenance task.

First, if you haven't cleaned your registry in a while. This is necessary. Your registry holds all the information regarding updates, installs, un-installs etc. Each one of those events produces a key. That key needs your PC's resources and free space. So, if you clean your registry, you make more resources available for speed. Do a registry scan if you got more than 20 errors you should clean it.

2. Clear your Windows cache files, this is your temporary file. It can grow up to a large volume and stop your computer from using RAM properly. In a sense slow it down by preventing it from using free space. Here is how:

1. Quit Internet Explorer, Firefox, or any other web browser

2. Click Start, click "Control Panel", and then double-click "Internet Options".

3. On the General tab, click "Delete Files" under Temporary Internet Files.

4. In the Delete Files dialog box, click to select the "Delete all offline content" check box , and then click OK.

5. Click OK.

3. Manage your startups. Your excess CPU usage is due to too many programs running in the background. You can cut these to barebones by alter your msconfig. Here is how:

1. Open your Start menu.

2. Click Run

3. In the command screen type "msconfig.exe"

4. In the "system configuration utility",click either "service" or "startup" tab

5. Uncheck all programs that your are no longer using.

6. Click "OK"

Other great tip is increasing your virtual memory to simulate more RAM. This will give you a bit more resources for multiple program use or CPU heavy programs.

Hope this link helps. Shows you how to do everything step by step. You should get a least 60-120% more resources and speed

if you follow the tips.

Maybe its time you cleaned it up and ran some scans.

Scan for spyware and viruses.

Reduce the number of items on your startup list.

Uninstall all unwanted programs and remove junk from the drive.

Use CCleaner or DiskCleanup to clear out the temporary files, internet cache, recycle bin etc.

If you HDD is overloaded and cluttered with fragments, everything including startup will take ages. Fragmentation is like a disease that causes performance deterioration by increasing file access time and drive activity. There are good automatic defragmenters which you can try out to defragment even a drive that’s almost full.

How much RAM do you have? Atleast 1 GB is good if you have a lot of programs running.

Well even i had same problems like you. For best effect you should format your PC and then use the softwares i have given you. But considering your situation you can still continue with a pretty better performance but not the ultimate your pc can give.

1.Install PC Booster first.

Download link: http://rapidshare.com/files/111213915/PC_Booster_2008_v1.0.0.1__Retail_.zip

Run it and auto tune your PC.

2. Install Speed up my PC. (This is used to maintain your systems performance)

3.Install Registry Booster

Download Link: http://rapidshare.com/files/111206410/RegistryBooster_V2.zip

(Remember to Defrag your registry also)

4. Page file settings:

Right click my computer and click on "properties". Click the tab "Advanced". Under performance click "settings" and then click "advanced". Under virtual memory click "change". Click on the "custom" radio button and set the values to "1024" and "2048". (Do this only if you have a large hard disk. Its a performance tweak.)

5. Defrag all your drives

6. Reboot your comp

You are now ready with a PC that performs the best in its class. My celeron feels like a Dual Core.

All softwares are full version. I dont like trials and i think you too hate em...

And dont worry... all these softwares are personally tested. If you havent got much time PC booster and defragmentation would be enough and give a good change

Do you have a lot of background programs running like msn messenger, explorer, anti virus etc(icons that you see at the lower right of your screen)? Normally these will eat up your memory causing your Windows PC to slow down.

Why not give PC Booster 2008 a try to boost your PC performance in 2 minutes. i have used for 3 years

and it works great!

If you haven't cleaned your registry for some time. You should do it now. The registry in Windows PC contains information regarding your updates, installs, un-installs etc. Each one of those events produces a key. That key needs your PC's resources and free space. So, if you clean your registry, you make more resources available for speed.

PC Booster contains the latest registry cleaner technology to clean up all your registry problems too. Recommeded by CNET and PCMag.
